The Video I linked above is actually aimed at Halo and its Unreal Engine development at the moment. But the points being made in that video can very much be applied to Destiny 2 as well.
The Portal feels disconnected from Destinys orbit map art style. It looks and feels like a foreign body in the games art style blood stream. Too minimalistic, too little like Destiny 1.
Edge of Fate, trying to be more like Destiny 1 (by the devs words), is not delivering that with the Portal. The Portal should also look like an Orbit map, with interactive drawings, circles, nodes, etc.
You (Bungie) could easily structure the Solo/Fireteam/Pinnacle/Crucible alongside Events and "Latest Expansion" and such in a way that they are like planet nodes on an Orbit map, but instead serving as a "suggested content" page.
Right now, the Portal feels like a boring singleplayer game menu that had no budget, not like a AAA game menu. It feels disconnected and out of vibe for the game. It doesn't contribute to the atmosphere and feels more designed by a corporate power point creator than a game art dev.
Just for reference, this is what Baldurs Gate 3 menu looks like. It does add to the atmosphere, the vibe, the immersion of the game.
Is it too much asked to go back to the Orbit design that makes Destiny unique?
