FPS Drops

After this patch FPS drops are even worse than they were last week. I understand that the removal of dedicated full screen is one big factor, and not to mention 0 optimization patches in several years. But it can’t be this bad, anyone else get worse FPS drops? I7-10070f with a 3060. Not the strongest rig but other games run just fine at high settings getting a smooth 144 fps. I can’t even break 90 with low settings in 3v3 crucible without stutters and screen tears.

Yup — game shows I’m getting 170 FPS, yet Steam’s FPS graph shows dips into the 30–40 FPS range every 3 seconds or so. Before yesterday, I was running a true 170 FPS without any dips. It’s really unfortunate because I was enjoying the DLC until this suddenly started happening. I know for a fact it’s not my PC — all drivers are updated (since Bungie mods love to default to “update your drivers”). This is 100% a frame pacing issue introduced with Edge of Fate, not a hardware or driver problem. I’m seeing reports of this even on RTX 5080 + 14900K rigs — so it’s clearly not a performance bottleneck. Here’s a link to many others experiencing the same thing, with videos showing the Steam FPS graphs: 🔗 https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/1mfvlwe/hitchingstuttering_post_edge_of_fate/ My specs: Ryzen 9800X3D RTX 3080 32GB DDR5 RAM 1440p BUNGO PLEASE fix this — the game is literally not fun to play when I’m micro-stuttering all over the place.

  • I wonder when we're going to get some official acknowledgement about the game's performance worsening across the board. This is getting ridiculous.

      • Thank you, I wanted to start a new topic too! For me its the same, the fps drops got worse, a lot worse. K1 was quite ok but not perfect before todays patch, but now its a stutterfest. -blam!-, what is Bungie doing!!! @Bungie At least acknowledge this problem. You acknowledged the crashing problem, but not the stutter problem. So give us some infos please! We paid for your product, it was fine before Edge of Fate dropped. Now please fix your product.

          • I can confirm that, it really got worse. As already mentioned numerous times in this forum, the issues began with the removal of the exclusive fullscreen option. Bungie really shouldn't have done this, as the game still runs on DirectX 11, which doesn't play well with borderless display modes in terms of latency. Playing on i7 9700k and Nvidia RTX 4080 Super 16 GB.

          • Guys… I have been having a horrible time with this issue… and I have FOUND MY FIX. Really hoping that it also works for all of you as well…. My computers default refresh rate was set to 60. I set it to the highest my monitor had (144) and my game looks better than ever Go to settings, system, display, ——> under related settings choose advanced display ——->select the correct monitor—— choose a refresh rate If your refresh rate is low, the game will look choppy with the new settings since edge of fate. Something about how the refresh rate was affected by borderless fullscreen.

            • I am on older hardware (5800x3d/2080ti). I have always run windowed fullscreen (to make it easier to access the second monitor). I set 140fps limit for my 144hz screen, I can easily hit 160-180+fps with my in game settings. Until EoF, its always be super smooth. This season, has been a choppy, stuttery mess. I can feel it drop frames and effect input latency... my FPS stays steady at 140, but it feels like im dropping down to 10-30 FPS momentarily repeatedly. I may try a different PC with a 7800x3d/3070 and see if its any different, but I only use my current system for D2 and changed nothing. The latest update did not change anything for me, better or worse, its been that same way as you describe since the launch. Sometimes I cant even shoot my gun when I pull the trigger if tap firing... miss jumps, slides, etc... Happens in both PvE and PvP, and has ruined flawless runs through activities. It is not a discrepancy between the OS refresh rate and game full-screen refresh rate setting. My settings are for 144/highest refresh available, with G-Sync enabled and locked to 140 FPS. My minimums almost never go under 140, and it has always been a very smooth and consistent experience unlike playing with unlocked FPS which can vary quite a bit depending on environments.

            • There is more likely a problem with whatever your network adapter and/or your router/modem are doing or not doing than anything for the frame issues. The anti-cheat kicks in I believe when it detects a connection issue. Don't ask me how I know. But the less stable your connection the worse your screen response will be. If that's not your problem after changing all your other settings don't know what to tell you. Try reinstalling your network adapters and maybe reboot your router and modem. Windows just did an update today and new driver were released for my GPU. Your anti-virus may need to be reinstalled too after a window update. Mine caused some issues with slow response and after a reinstall it went away.

              • I'm with you on the performance it was running very smoothly before and now it's a complete mess for me I used to cap my frames at 120 just because I like to keep it there and it barely was staying anywhere close to that after today and the update... Currently resetting my PC to see if I can remedy the issue but I'm not hopeful

                • Same here, since EoS dropper, game hardly keeps 70fps and most of the time drop to 40 when before this DLC I was easily running a stable 120 on okay settings. Setting video quality parameters to the minimum does not change anything. What I noticed is that pre-DLC the game was configured for borderless fullscreen and was perfectly fine, whereas first Time booting the game after the major patch brought me a quartered-visible game, the three other quarter of the GUI being totally out of view. In case it may have an effect, i'm using a G-Sync display. Please fix, currently game is barely playable when there are a lot of actions on screen
