Leveling For Loot MAKES NO SENSE

How am I supposed to convince veteran players to get back on the game when it takes 15+ hours to get loot as good as what they already have? And it takes another 15 hours to unlock better loot? This is a mind boggingly stupid game design for a looter shooter-style game. The game should reward SKILL not TIME. If my friends are good enough to go Flawless or complete a Raid, actually reward them! Why is the guy who played Lost Sectors for 30 hours rewarded more? This entire level / loot system makes no sense. Sincerely, Someone who wants to play the game with friends who have lives outside of gaming

  • This is so true. It's grind over skill instead of the other way... the way it should be.

    • They are mainly aiming for it to be a time sink but the way they are doing it is seriously backwards. A fun game will automatically be a time sink. A game with incentive and room for development of skill will be even more of a time sink. Doom eternal does this amazingly well. The gameplay is smooth and fast which makes it almost addictive as you keep chasing the next brutal encounter. There is also lots of room to develop your skill by learning things like weapon combos. And then obviously you need the content in terms of missions or arenas. Bungie doesn’t deliver particularly well in any of these categories so they instead use this system of mind numbing activities with little variety.

      • Not to mention if you actually do the mind numbing grind to 450 like some of us did You are stuck doing the same mind numbing grind for a RNG chance at Tier 5 gear unless you want to play crucible, which rewards Tier 5 with just a B+ score. Crucible weapons are worth it, but the crucible armor is worthless to me. I need to farm Techsec armor and Bushido armor which are only guaranteed to be Tier 4 rewards with an A score. We get 2 weekly missions that drop a 300 power Tier 5 each and then the Mythic Time Latch missions have the potential to drop Tier 5, but don't always, so another RNG stick it in the rear chance. The we have the limited availability Sieve activity that is here for like 30 minutes every couple hours so you MIGHT get 4 Tier 5 drops. I was actually enjoying the grind as it was good for keeping my mind distracted and was under the assumption that once 450 everything was Tier 5. FALSE. The juice definitely wasn't worth the squeeze on this one and now I have a hard time even playing because what I'm getting in rewards is worse than what I already have just from leveling. Here is the X post I made on the subject. https://x.com/torch327/status/1957894158221246879

Also let’s not forget that raid loot should drop upto 450

          • It would still be better if there were interesting activities to engage with rather than keep grinding solo K1/caldera, which unfortunately happens to be the most efficient option. I've also heard solo, fireteam or pinnacle ops only drop T5s with primes even at 450 (~5% base chance) I had a few weeks free while switching jobs and with solstice got up to 400, have decent new gear but have literally nothing to do now. LFGs for raids take ages to fill and some leave due to mechanics, dungeons/raids except DP still don't have gear per new system, no new exotic missions, strikes, lost sectors, etc. I still came in weekly to complete red borders from weekly exotic rotators (stuck at 4/5 on most patterns). Encore was added but apparently no loot pool was attached. I see Kell's fall this week and I've so much faith in Bungie's QA, I'm nearly sure there's no loot from this either. Next week should be Derealize going by pattern so 3 weeks wasted on the only thing I was interested in completing before saying goodbye.

          • Preach, man. I like to do endgame content. GMs, master raids, all the fun stuff. But dude not even having access to content I’ve been doing for years unless I run a million solo ops feels like such a waste of time lol. I’m not a kid with all the free time I used to have. I have a family so like when I get time to game, I’d like to run difficult content. But knowing that I’ll just get rewards with the quality of hotdog water completely kills the desire to even play. This expansion made a bunch of dudes in my clan quit, and I don’t blame them. I’m really hoping some big changes are made because this current model, I don’t have the time or desire to keep up with. I’m not going to run a million solo ops, I value my sanity too much

          • You don't (convince people to come back). If Bungie can't, you can't. The game tried to reward skill. The people without it whined they couldn't get everything and Bungie caved on basically everything sans raid loot. This is the result of that crowd of people peeing themselves at things like timers, and ad density, and challenge in general. Now it's just a time sink. Yay!

              • You do this to yourself really... here come the sycophants... oh well i said it just stop playing the game... destiny really does something to your mental health it induces Stockholm syndrome its real... Destiny players are often found saying "I hate this game its my favorite game..." shouldn't that be a red flag? Its easy to notice when you finally put it all behind you. Im a recovering destiny addict myself I am speaking from experience.

                  • Destiny has always been marketed as an FPS with RPG undertones. That is the thing that made it unique from other fps games. The loot system and new armor stats is exactly that, more inline with RPG. Not everyone is going to be happy obviously but for the last two years the majority of PVE complaints have been that things were too easy and why did we spend $50-100 bucks to blow through content in 1 day. This is the solution. Making events/mission multi tiered along with stat grind. It doesn't take hours and hours if you play the system. Focus on the stats rather than the light level. Light level will come naturally with progress. The stats are what help with the content and mods built into each difficulty tier. I was two weeks behind as I was unable to play the first two weeks of release. I surpassed my clan mates in under a week of playing by doing just as I suggested. Stats before light level.

Why is the guy who played Lost Sectors for 30 hours rewarded more? [/quote] Watching a raid guide and copying what they do then logging off doesn't take as much skill as people seem to think it does. Although matchmaking helps with trials some, logging in on the weekends only for pvp isn't much of an investment either. You're rewarded for your time looking for people to play with and synchronizing your schedules doing raids and trials. Someone doing lost sectors making "big number bigger" is investing more time in the game and can be levelled up to do those weekend activities like raids and trials, and if they're not on your team it doesn't matter what they have. Also raids and trials have chances at exclusive exotic rewards, enough time invested.

                    • Well, my two cents worth is that, in free to play, there are no weapons that are better or equal to the old ones I have, so I just use them.

                    • They both need to be rewarded. If you're skilled enough to do hard stuff, it should rain loot for you. But if some decided to put in the time and grind a shii ton, it should also be rewarded. Shouldn't be just one way road. With that being said, the game is utter shii now anyway

Leveling as content makes perfect sense if you consider the studio is leaning into equity and inclusion for progression. Everyone can get to the finish line at their own pace. And the finish line is just different tier rolls of the same stuff everyone gets!! Win win!! Raids, Dungeons, and Trials are kinda toxic to this new design…

                      • I had this thought at first too but it’s really not that bad. Get to level 300 and you’re guaranteed tier 3 loot with B+ scores. Tier 5 loot isn’t needed, especially for weapons. Tier 3 already guarantees 4 perks in a weapon and enhanced perks off the bat. The armor may be a bit better but you don’t actually need all those stat points. Stat pools are still nice at tier 3. I did the campaign and got almost light 200 then just a few more days for 300. Tier 5 armor is for us no life’s who want our builds 5% better than yours. Plus on the bright side they more than likely will change this system and make it easier. I will agree it definitely is TOO grindy.
