Stop using streamers as your only source of feedback on game changes and direction

The sheer number of times you’ve given all expenses paid secret behind the scenes tours and private demos to streamers is ridiculous. If follower numbers mattered, Joshua Block has over 5 million followers so maybe he should be flown into bungie HQ instead of your streamers who flaunt their 1 million followers as if that’s actually something. If a belligerent alcoholic autist can have more followers than all the top destiny streamers combined, then maybe it’s time to reconsider what internet clout really means. Maybe influencers really aren’t that important ?? Maybe people really don’t want harder and harder content, even less power fantasy, or worst of all shorter time gated content like events that only last 1 or 2 weeks long at max. Iron banner worked being only 1-2 weeks since it came multiple times a season. At least once a month. Solstice only comes once a F-ing year and you think only 2 weeks is enough to celebrate it?

  • Are you suggesting someone who makes a living playing video games, at thier own schedule, doesn't represent the view of your normal everyday player who has obligations outside of gaming ?

  • The perpetual ramping up of difficulty shows that, if they don't overvalue streamers, Bungie at least undervalues casual players. And what is World's First if not a gift to streamers? What used to be optional content is now mandatory for leveling up - and there is NOTHING to do other than level up. More and more items are locked behind difficult activities that many players find impossible to do. D-ck waving has always been part of the game - now it IS the game. "Look at the rank I have that you don't." "Look at the power level I have that you don't." "Look at the weapons I have that you don't." Destiny was once an inclusive game that everyone with average skill and a bit of determination could play. LFG groups - okay, LFG groups were always a bit toxic. Ever get kicked for not having a Gjallarhorn? But now, that "you're not good enough" attitude has permeated the entire game. We've gone from playing raids to watching them. And Bungie has gone from "Friendship is the REAL endgame" to "Git gud". And it's just not fun. Even if it's not impossible, it's tedious. And more and more players are over it. Maybe streamers aren't the problem. But you can't say that many of Bungie's more recent changes aren't tailor-made for them. And the rest of us feel deserted.

    • This reeks of someone who tried streaming once and couldn't break 3 viewers. Most content creators have been complaining about the current state of the grind. Also, I literally play like an hour a day and I'm like 414 in full tier 5. Plus solstice has always been 1-2 weeks per year since it started.

      • Hard to say who has the most influence in the game direction. Could be streamers , managers, select programmers, CEO, AI, Sony, play testers, or some person locked in a closet. There is enough evidence that someone or something made strategic changes that few like. The OP is correct to point out Bungie has a great tool with more views than streamers right here. Not defending streamers nor Bungie in this. Both obviously need help.

      • This doesn't read to me like OP is hating on streamers, it reads like they're frustrated that Bungie is listening to streamers at what he feels is the expense of the community. To be fair to Bungie, somewhat: In terms of sheer quantity, I doubt anybody gives Bungie more feedback than the streamers do, on a person by person basis, I mean. Like, I've never made a half hour video discussing my frustrations with the game, but streamers do that five days a week. Thing is, I don't always agree with the streamers anyway, I like 'em, but I don't dote on them. Streamers are the top 1% of players, at least in terms of play time, they aren't really representative of the larger community; they're influencers, they're influential, but that doesn't mean they speak for us. I think Bungie could benefit from polling the community, asking us what we think, maybe even front loading it into the game engine so it's not just forum goers and email checkers who see it. Ask about things like difficulty, loot rewards, light levels, game direction, favorite activities, whatever. I don't know how influential streamers actually are for developers (Who was asking for matterspark?), but it might do Bungie some good to solicit opinions from the community. They asked about Warlock class fantasy, that's a start!

I have long said, Bungie's decision to stop making the game self-explanatory and create a sub-economy out of game intel was 'ground zero' in the game's decline. The game is at times COMPLETELY unable to be navigated without third party media intelligence. It's lazy, cheap and counter-productive. Attitudes that have become systemic to Destiny's game design. Sony! Take over. It's time for an Unreal Engine D3.

        • Bungie look at the casual community like a rich person looks at a poor person, with utter contempt and malice. Bungo only want to listen to the streamers because these "people" spend all their time playing the game. Cause you have a job/family/other commitments, they see you as reprehensible scum. These streamers bring free marketing to bungo as well, and in return bungo give them free passes to playing new content/coaching for new raids and dungeons and other crap too. Effectively a "you suck me off, I'll suck you off" approach. All you can do, and all you should do is stop playing, stop paying and start moving onto other games. The good bungie is dead, all that is left is a decrepid corpse being fisted by that -blam!- Parsons.

            • They really have screwed over the casual players, yes I understand there are higher level players but come on its not hard to be inclusive of all levels. Start with grades on Ops level C gives you 1 piece 1 level above you, level B gives you 2 pieces 1 level above you and grade A gives you like 2 pieces 2 or 3 levels above you. Bungie have so decided to screw over the casual and low level players to focus only on the ELITE. Maybe they feel these elite players and the streamers are the only ones that bring them in the money and that our money is not worth chasing?

              • An interesting note. Recall a few weeks ago, every second post on the Forums was an invitation to join a Clan? "Come join us for a delightful experience of fun and tolerance!" Now? I think there's one. So, not only the players have left, the Clans have died!

                • Bungie does bring non content creator players in to get their perspectives. We seldom hear much about it because - you know - they don't create content. It's also true that someone who plays a game for a living probably has a better understanding of the details of game systems than the average Joe. Most of the top creators consistently play with highly skilled players who also have an advanced understanding of game mechanics. Finally, content creators constantly get feedback from regular players via comments and chat. It's been my experience over the years that many players watch content creators as a how-to. I've never seen the attraction of watching someone else play a game. But I'm all in on someone showing me how raid mechanics work or explaining the details of the new armor system. Maybe Bungie should do a better job of that in game but it's never been that way and probably never will. The classic comment "no experience necessary but please watch a video" is a standard for raid lfgs. A lot of players use builds they learned about from videos. Like it or not - for a lot of people content creators are a major interface with the game. Does that mean they have a deeper, more nuanced, and more informed opinion than you or I? Probably. Do they have a vested interest in influencing the game in a direction that lets them keep paying their bills? Certainly. Wouldn't you? And of course - free marketing is free marketing.

                • The Truth whether we like it or not Day 1 contest content raids/dungeons are for streamers and mnk PC users not for casuals or consoles, the legit numbers show this and it is not a console players are worse thing it's a mnk is superior to controller thing and difficulty proves this. Streamers want reasons to play and to stream Destiny 2 so Bungie gave it to them Bungie needs the Streamers it is the advertisement for Destiny 2 and how feed back and information and tutorials are spread When Bungie does not cater to the Streamers or give the Streamers more and harder content the Streamers leave for other games and so does that streamers community Streamers are not the issue with Destiny 2, Destiny 2 going to PC n mnk is the issue with Destiny 2, why? Cheaters ... Bungie cannot make content hard enough for good players on PC with mnk and when they do or try to controller and console players have a harder time completing that content I play both PC and console with mnk and controller completely different experiences

                    • I completely agree with you about some people not wanting to do harder content, I hate having to increase the difficulty over and over again just to be able to keep leveling up in pve. I'm around 320 power and have decided to stop leveling up simply because I don't want to constantly be increasing the difficulty in pve content. When Renegades comes out I think I'll just stay at 200 power.

                          • Really it’s not the content creators fault it’s the ppl that keep watching their videos, if their views went down the toilet game companies wouldn’t listen to them. Also it was entertaining these last couple weeks seeing them trying so hard to promote that Solstice is raining tier 5’s, ya if you’re over 400 maybe, so streamers and ppl with lots of free time win again lol

                            • I totally agree with this foolishness of taking only streamers as the end all be all of the community thoughts and feelings. Streamers need to make their money so they've been compromised from the moment they started monetizing their -blam!- or take any sort of compensation. And also because they're overly addictive to the game that they're making videos about that does not reflect the majority of Their audience as we all have lives. Their life is to play the game.

                            • I'm pretty hardcore, and the game has just lost what "fun" means. I'm not quitting until I get through whatever Renegades offers. Refuse to waste a purchase. They seem to have forgotten destiny is labeled a dad shooter. Which isn't a bad thing imo. Dad's need a place to chill.

                            • I have no issues with some stuff being extremely hard but they are incapable of implementing hard without also implementing bugged crap which stops me from a flawless run. Like enemies ALWAYS being able to attack through every wall in the game. I literally died last night to an enemy behind a door that had not even opened yet. If things worked correctly half my deaths would disappear and i would have beaten a lot more than i have.
