Last week's TWID asked players what their Warlock class fantasy was, and I haven't seen many people chiming in to share what they think. I've been struggling to think of how to explain my own Warlock class fantasy, it's sort of hard to put into words.
I like throwing Nova Bombs, I like turning enemies into a fine purple mist with Nova Warp, I love wiping swarms of adds off the planet with Lightning Surge, and suspending entire rooms with a flick of my wrist. When Warlocks hit hard, it's super satisfying; if I had to characterize it, I'd say Warlocks are at their best when they feel like Gandalf, warrior wizards.
The support playstyle is fun, but at my level it's not always useful. I don't do Raids or Dungeons, when I party up it's usually low-mans, activities where my ability to kill things is more useful than my ability to provide healing, support, debuffs, and stuff like that. But I do generally like the idea of the support fantasy, I don't think that should go away any time soon.
If I had my druthers gameplay wise, I'd ask for more melee abilities like Lightning Surge. I know melee isn't really part of our traditional class fantasy... ...but Lightning Surge, and mobile melees in general, are one of the most fun skills in the game, they're just a joy to use, and Warlocks only have two (if you count Prismatic.) This isn't so much about class fantasy, it's about what our kit lacks, and what's fun.
Exotics wise, as long as I'm musing, Chaos Accelerant on any subclass would be cool. Grenades are our class fantasy, so that could be fitting. It seems like it's been a while since we've gotten a new Grenade-centric exotic. Sunbracers remains one of my favorite Exotics in the game, it's a fantasy I can't get on any other class, leaning into our grenades seems like a very safe bet. (Edit: You could literally copy/past Sunbracers to the other subclasses and get unlimited brownie points from most Warlocks, I think.)
And I'll admit, I enjoy the buddy builds. I don't think our class should be all about buddies (unless you're considering letting us do actual Summons, which I think would be incredibly cool!) but I do enjoy the buddy playstyle. Refining the buddies and adding to their kit would be welcome by some of us, but it probably shouldn't come at the expense of other options, since buddies are pretty solid right now.
My Warlock class fantasy is first and foremost blowing things up by whatever paracausal means I have at my disposal, secondly as a support class to keep my enemies weak and my allies strong, I want to feel like Gandalf and shape the course of the battle, calling down great powers to smite my foe. What made me play Destiny 2 for more than an hour was using Nova Warp for the first time, it was the ultimate power fantasy, and it still feels pretty cool 1,500 hours later.
Edit: One of my favorite things to do, maybe to the chagrin of other players, is giving everybody on my team an Arc Buddy. I just think that's cool.
Edit 2: Oh, and the Warlock changes in 9.1 look really good!

I just posted a similar response earlier today on here, hoping it does get looked at since they did ask for feedback. Definitely agree that Warlocks identity should be ability focused, heavily emphasizing our space magic abilities in the neutral game. Sure there are some subclasses that can kind of spam abilities, but outside a few outliers most hit like a wet noodle in end game content.
