Good evening everybody! This is Aifos coming to you alive from Skyah! If you don't know, Kirby is (probably) my favorite franchise ever, and way back over 20 years ago we got Kirby Air Riders on the Gamecube. To this day, it is still one of the best racing/party games ever, and I will die on this hill.
Fast forward to now, though, and we're getting a long awaited sequel to this game, and I am so hyped! And, just today, we got an entire Nintendo Direct dedicated just to Kirby Air Riders, giving us our first real glimpse of the game, and I mean it, it looks literally perfect! And I don’t mean figuratively-literally, I mean literally-literally. There is one big thing from the original that hasn't been revealed yet, and admittedly if that thing is missing then I will have to retract my "literally perfect" to "functionally perfect", but, I'm 80% sure it's still in the game, and just not revealed yet.
But anyway, rapid fire list of notable stuff if you don't want to watch that whole video:
-The unique and amazing stage design is back and better than ever. We got to see a whole course on a really amazing raging tempest like level. It's great.
-The new City Trial, which has a name this time, the city is called Skyah, really captures the feel of the original city, but is so much more detailed, and amazing. I love it.
-You don't just play as Kirby this time, there's at least 12 characters (and probably more to come), including a good mix of both main characters and regular enemies. Including Susie! Susie was legit on my list of "things I would really love to be in the game but probably aren't", and I'm so happy!
-All characters can ride on any machine now.
-Super moves are a thing.
-City Trial now has special races & battles that can take place in the city. You join the race, and then your placement gives you items. It's really cool.
-Everything looks really snappy and punchy.
-There's online play, if you were worried about that. Up to 6 players in a race, and 16 in City Trial.
-Everyone can use Copy Abilities because Sakurai says so.
-No solid confirmation, but there seems to be an implied story mode involving Dark Matter.
-The one and only downside is Top Ride hasn't been mentioned yet. But, Sakurai said there's more to come.
While I would've bought a Switch 2 eventually anyway, this game was probably the biggest reason I picked up a Switch 2 on launch, and from what we've seen so far it was 100% worth the investment! This game is shaping up to be a huge console seller, at least in my book!
Before we got too many details on the game, I put together a list of things I would want out of this game, but I kinda assumed my list was a bit too much, y'know? Like, "it would be cool if it had (...), but I'm not actually expecting to have all that...". And then this Direct drop and checks literally every box on my list and then gives me even more than that! It's insane how amazing this looks!
That is all. I am excited, and I wanted to gush.
Tl;dr? Here's my point!
Susie is playable, City Trial looks fantastic, I dig that new Paper Star, tanks?!, CHARIOTS?!, DARK MATTER ON AN EDGY MOTORBIKE?!
The TTYD remake announcement may have made me cry, but no game announcement has ever made me smile this much!

This game looks like to be in the Nintendo Land realm of games, where it's that one Nintendo party game that's one of the greatest pieces of video-game craftsmanship ever created, but still flies under the radar. That, or it's just going to be gimmicky, like that alternate mode in Smash 4. It's weird that they're releasing this so close to Mario Kart World, when it seems like such a direct competitor. I hope this game gets the attention it deserves, especially since the racing mode seems so much less rng-based than Mario Kart. Especially with being able to concoct your own combination of rider with different stats and abilities and whatnot, I can definitely see this game getting real sweaty, real quickly, despite the fun aesthetic. After all, it's being made by Mr. Smash Bros himself. Can't wait until they replace the dum-dum coin mechanic with the drifting mechanic in Mario Kart. Though, I do hope the aesthetics keep the sweats out, even though this does seem like a really fun game to dig deep and truly master. The Switch 2 is making me really wish I could justify getting into newer games now, but my backlog is just too big :(.
