Bungie Name Change Disparity In Treatment

I believe that Bungie has unfairly changed my name in game and I also firmly believe that there is disparity in treatment. Before being Redacted2008 I was Sabrina Carpenter. Purely because I really like the artist and thought it was fun seeing the name in the feed on the bottom left-hand corner. No impersonation or toxic behavior was meant behind the name. I login on August 20th and lo and behold I have had my name changed to Redacted2008, which I can only believe is the result of reports in Trials of Osiris or otherwise. I have several screenshots of people violating the Code of Conduct against me by using vulgar language and harassment/insult, which I brushed off by replying with song lyrics again by my favorite artist. On top of that, there are at least three other players who pay homage to Sabrina Carpenter. This post isn’t meant to call them out but simply and humbly request that my name be reverted or I can be given a new name change token. I’ve already submitted two appeal tickets via the ban/restriction appeal and was met with default auto-mod answers. Please Bungie, help a guy out.

  • Hello there, A name reset to default like that means it was detected or reported, reviewed by Bungie and reset to"Redacted####", that indicates that some part of the name broke the Code of Conduct or the Bungie Name Policy, was filtered, and cannot/should not be used again. When that happens, you get the new name cross play message in-game as notice of the name change. You can try a different name if you have a name change available. If the system is not allowing more changes, there is no way to override it. If you are seeing other players who have names that do not align with the Name policies, feel free to report them. In your case it would appear that since your name was a real name, it was moderated.
I’ve already submitted two appeal tickets via the ban/restriction appeal and was met with default auto-mod answers.
There are currently no appeals for name moderation actions.

You're not allowed to use real names either, regardless if its yours, a celebrity or whoever. The word "Carpet" could also be caught due to being innuendo.

  • When Bungie change a name, they don't change all instances of it. Those names will also get changed once they're seen by/reported to Bungie. In the past Bungie have said that they do not have a tool/system in place for reverting name changes even if it was changed in error, once a name change has gone through the only way for you to change it is with a token. If you are able to enter a name into the text box over on the Identity settings page then you likely have a token. If the box prevents input or says something like 'you have no remaining Bungie name changes' below it, then you will need to wait until Bungie issue everyone a token in the future whenever that may be as they also don't individually issue tokens on request.
