Some recommendations from a seasoned player

Hi Bungie Devs, I am a disabled old lady with 7,300+ hours on Destiny 2, who loves the Destiny Universe. I want you to succeed because I love this game and I know it can be amazing. I have been playing Destiny 2 since 2019 when I was recovering from spine surgery. I am in a clan who also loves playing this game and we love playing this game together. You have produced some really good foundation blocks this time around and I would like to offer some simple suggestions to make the game better by making the leveling process more logical. I’m not going to beat a dead horse here. I’m merely highlighting some areas that could use a little attention. Some of these would be big wins for everyone. We all know that leveling is a primary gripe across the player base. I know you are trying to address these concerns, but I have listed some areas where some small changes might help alleviate some of the anxiety that surrounds the game right now. I appreciate the work that you have put into the game for this huge change in the way we play Destiny 2 and I believe that you want this change to be successful, and I do too. We all agree that leveling should not come from one activity alone. We need multiple paths that provide the loot that assists us on our way up that ladder. Loot is the primary means of leveling. Since loot is the root, we need to address that first. I have outlined some suggestions with vendors, game play, and materials. The big obstacle to leveling for most players is unstable cores. Elimination of unstable cores would be a quick easy fix for us. The next adjustment that is needed is the gameplay rating system, where the fireteam leader should be the driver for the A-B-C rating system. And last, vendors. These three areas are ripe for some tweaks. 1. Unstable cores: I find these to be the main throttle in leveling my characters. When I have them, I can level up. When I am short, I cannot. I can go through 20k of these simply by leveling up 3 pieces of gear. And then I have to deconstruct 20 more drops before I can level up others. I go through whole days where I deconstruct just about every drop, so I can have enough cores to make a decent build. Eliminate these and we can level up quicker, without having to redesign anything. The fact that it costs 7000+ unstable cores to level up a 200 gear to 412 is insanity. I have to earn and deconstruct dozens of new gear that is near my current level just to level up a couple of desireable pieces for my builds. This is the biggest leveling issue for me. It’s not the activities or the drop rates. It’s this new currency. Please, get rid of these or at least make it a standard amount necessary to level, like 1500 or something. 7000+ is just obscene. If you merely eliminated these, we could level at a much better pace. That could solve many problems for most players, especially those with limited time to play. 2. Portal Activities: Add all activities to the portal. I’m sure that this is on the agenda, but really, we all want this. Dungeons, raids, nightfalls, and exotic missions need to be portal activities. Also, update all the loot to the new tier system. This is what we really want. This would make playing those activities relevant again. That’s why nearly no one is playing them. The new loot is really good and it’s all I want to have in my builds. I have no reason to play the other activities because they drop old, irrelevant loot, aside from the exotics, of course. I really like the way I can modify my portal gameplay. This actually helps me to become a better player. I thank you for this change. I would love to see a modifier to increase the quantity of enemies in PVE activities. 1.5x, 2x and 2.5x would be great. Same with adding additional champions and elites. This would help in fireteam ops to make the score necessary for an A. For example, we kill all the champions and the elites in fireteam ops, and instead of finishing, because we don’t have the score yet, we’re hanging out trying to get more to spawn so we can get the A or even a B+. Sometimes it happens, and sometimes it doesn’t. When it doesn’t we feel like we’ve just wasted our time. We would absolutely select more elites and champions when setting up our run initially, just so we can get the score. The time issue on fireteam ops is crazy low. We are expected to run a grandmaster nightfall in 15 minutes. We have always had 45 minutes. Can we get that adjusted? I can see Master on maybe a 25 minute time, but grandmaster is a lot harder, and you just can’t do it in 15 minutes. Having a realistic time would be a great change. I really like the weekly boons in the portal activities. The double special ammo drops with double damage was fantastic. I would love to see double loot grandmaster or pinnacle weeks, or even double loot days would be a great win. I miss grandmaster nightfalls, especially with the double drop weeks. My clan would run those all week long. It was a lot of fun. Please, consider bringing those opportunities back. Solstice was the best ever this year. Thank you for that. I got a lot of really great gear from Solstice. That was a solid win. Please, do more of that. One concern that I have is when playing portal activities with players who are not as leveled up as I am, (i.e. I am at 412 and a fireteam member is at 325, a considerable difference) for him to get a B, I have to modify it so much that the enemies are like 60 or more above me and that is too hard for us. He’s a much lower level than I am, and he gets brought to within 5 of me for gameplay, so he should be at an B when I’m at a B and that is not the case. I don’t understand this at all. The fix, in my opinion, should be that all players on the fireteam should be at the same grade as the fireteam leader because it’s the fireteam leader who sets up the run. If it’s a B+ or an A for him, it should be the same for all fireteam members. The guy who is nearly 100 below me should not be penalized for not being at 400+, he should be at a B+ just like I am when I set it up for a B+ run. This is an issue that really does need to be addressed. In my entire clan, we only have a few players who are 400+, so this makes playing with other clan members frustrating and it shouldn’t be that way. Loot: I personally play the game for good loot. I love using good loot in the end- game content. I love playing the harder challenges (not impossible challenges, I’m not a contest mode lover at all, I’m an average player who likes the challenge of difficult content, not ridiculously difficult content, I like to be successful in my time playing). My play style and approach to this game is to get enough really good loot to have some really good builds so I can successfully complete harder activities with my friends in my clan. We would grind all season long to get to the level so we could do grandmasters and raids successfully. I have 77 clears on vault of glass, 60 clears on root of nightmares, 25 on vow of the disciple, 41 on kingsfall, 22 on crota, and 31 on deepstone crypt. I love raids. And I have 124 GM clears and numerous dungeons as well. Clearly, I love that content and I love helping other players successfully complete harder activities. My point here is that it isn’t the grind that I love. It’s the end-game successful runs that I love. I love to get my level up high enough so that I can play those activities successfully. Getting there should not take all season. This time around, for many, many players, it will take them all season long to get to 400. It shouldn’t be that way. 3. Vendors and reputation: Hawthorne: This vendor needs a couple of changes. iShe really should have clan-related rewards only. This encourages players to belong to a clan and play with clanmates in all types of gameplay. Currently, though, I earn reputation with this vendor by simply playing the game. That should not be the case. I’d like to see a change here. When earning an engram from this vendor, I would like to see it be 2-5 points above my level, depending on the difficulty of the gameplay. It currently drops at 200 for nearly everything and I immediately deconstruct whatever I get, unless it’s that rare drop that’s at my level. I really don’t want to waste the unstable cores to level that gear up. Xür: I like the changes you’ve made to this vendor and they can easily be built upon. I often find that there isn’t enough good loot to purchase with my strange coins. This is going to vary with every player, of course. What’s good for one player is not for another. So, simply make the loot a higher level, based on our level or even 10 below. I want to spend my strange coins for deconstructable loot that gives me something more than glimmer or if deconstructed loot paid out in a currency other than glimmer, like enhancement prisms or cores. I earn plenty of glimmer with the ghost mod or deconstructing old loot in my vault. If Xür were a reliable source for other materials, such as enhancement prisms, enhancement cores, and ascendant shards (more than just one per week per account), players would grind for earning those strange coins to keep their leveling possible. If this were the case, we would also love to have the strange coin cap either raised or removed. Rahool: I would love to be able to buy more materials from this vendor each week. Please consider adding enhancement cores purchased with gimmer to his shopping area. We need something to spend glimmer on these days. Exotics: I would also love to see exotic armor part of the tier system, where we spend exotic cyphers to increase the tier on already earned exotics. Let us go up to tier 5 on them by spending materials. That would perfect some of our builds. Yours in Cayde-6, Sea3780
