Hello, i just wanted to share some thoughts about the tier system now that its been almost half a year since the system was released and everyone has gotten used to it.
I want to start this off by telling people that might read this that i am not a streamer or a content creator. I have been playing the game since D1 in 2014 as a hobby and Destiny 2 is my favorite game of all time. I work, study and have a lot of hobbies outside of gaming.
The game has been in a terrible spot lately and it hurts my soul because this franchise has sooo much potential but people at the top of Bungie keep making stupid mistakes and decisions.
Bungie can't make everyone happy and it's about time they accepted that. They have to pick a direction and stick to it.
Today i wanted to talk about the tier system in the game. Weapons and armor having tiers is GREAT but the implementation of this system has been really bad in my humble opinion. The problem with the loot in Destiny has always been "if i have the best in slot x weapon with x perks why would i ever need another gun"
The tier system would kinda fix this problem (at least for longer then the old system would). You would always have something more to play for. You could get a tier one of "the best in slot" and then keep playing FOR A CHANCE to get higher tiers of the same gun but with enhanced perks, enhanced barrels and so on. This is how "looter shooters" work, and im sorry to say but if you don't like "grinding" for better weapons and armor maybe you should consider finding a new genre of games.
Now we come to the MAIN problem THAT I HAVE with this system. If u have a diffrent opinion then me, im sorry but you are wrong. Na but in all seriousness if u have a diffrent opinion i would love to have discussions under this post and maybe you could even change my mind!
The MAIN problem i have is that the tiers are connected to your power level and guardian rank.
I don't know who thought this was a good idea, it DESTROYS the whole point of the tier system in it self. I am 550 power and guardian rank 10 and almost every single piece of loot that i get is tier 5. Its pretty uncommon that i get something that isn't tier 5.
TIER 5 SHOULD NEVER BE GUARANTEED (maybe except for contest mode raids/dungeons)
Tier 5 loot should be the hardest things to get in the entire game and i stand by this. Not everyone is suppose to have the best things in the game (THATS HOW LOOTER SHOOTERS WORK). Everyone should have a CHANCE of getting the best tier stuff in the game but it should NEVER BE GUARANTEED. You should have to put in a lot of time and effort to even get a few tier 5s. They should not be dropping all the time because now we are back in the same situation we where before this new system was released. Everyhing that is lower then tier 5 is basically useless because tier 5s are so easy to get.
In my mind a tier system would mean that everyone has a shot of getting high tiers of weapons and armor but it should not be locked to your player level or guardian rank. You could design a system where the higher power and higher guardian rank you are the higher your percentage of getting higher tiers are.
In my opinion drop rates for tier 5 weapons and armor should be VERY LOW, maybe around the 2% at the start, but then as you get higher power level and guardian rank maybe it should increase to like 5 or 10%. NOT HIGHER. Tier 5s should be very rare and imagine the feeling you would get when you finally get a tier 5 of the weapon you want. The chance of it being a "bad roll" is very low since tier 5s have 3 enchaned pers in each collum, but if it is a "bad roll" then suck to suck, go grind for a new and better one.
And you know what? Tier 3-4 loot is still very good, its just that the system that is in the game right now makes them useless. If you don't have the energy/time/commitment to grind for a tier 5 you should feel happy about at least getting a tier 3 or maybe even a rare tier 4. And if u don't feel happy? Then keep playing the game, and i promise that the feeling you would get when u finally get that tier 5 would be better then a -blam!-.
The feeling of getting something special is lost in this version of the game. I remember the first time i got gally in d1. I was the happiest kid on earth and my screaming woke up my parents in the middle of the night because they legit thought i was getting stabbed in my room.
I hope that it's not to late and that Bungie might figure out some way to make changes to the tier system to make it more special. This was just my opinion and i would love the hear what other people think. I will never stop playing this game, but i really hope that Bungie can turn things around make make the game more engaging to play for the players that stick around. You can't cater to every single type of player, you have to chose a direction for the game and stick with it. If this is the direction Bungie wants to take it then fine. I won't stop playing, but the feeling i once had for this game will probably never come back and that makes me incredibly sad.
Thank you for reading! Please please please let me know if u have and thoughts of your own. i would love the hear what other people think. This was just my opinion and i really want this game to be the best it can be.
Much love / Knox
Ps, Good luck to all going for the day 1 dungeon <3
Pps, English is not my first language, sorry for any typos or weird sounding sentences. Hopefully i got my point across.
