New Feature Proposal: Permanent, Random-Rolled Artifacts & Tiered Champion Investment

The Destiny 2 sandbox is undergoing a massive shift, and now is the perfect time to address two systems that have limited long-term build crafting and loot satisfaction: the temporary Seasonal Artifact and the repetitive Anti-Champion Mod system. This proposal transforms the Artifact into a permanent, high-investment piece of gear and simultaneously introduces a Tiered Mastery System for anti-Champion weapons, dramatically increasing the depth of the loot chase and player agency. Part I: The Tiered Anti-Champion Mod Mastery System The goal here is to decouple Champion mods from the seasonal treadmill, making them a permanent, progressive investment in your favorite weapons. ⚙️ How it Works: Removal: Anti-Champion mods are removed entirely from the Artifact and the seasonal mod system. Acquisition & Slotting: Champion mods (e.g., Anti-Barrier, Overload, Unstoppable) are unlocked permanently through Guardian Ranks (Tier 1 access starting at Rank 2 to guide new players). These mods utilize a new, universal Tactical Mod Slot on all Legendary weapons. High-Risk, High-Reward Investment: Applying an Anti-Champion mod to a weapon costs Glimmer and an Enhancement Core. Once applied, the weapon is permanently designated as that Anti-Champion type (e.g., this Hand Cannon is now permanently Overload). This is a commitment, making players invest meaningfully in their God Rolls. Tiered Progression (Weapon Mastery): Using the weapon to stun its respective Champion grants the mod XP. Leveling the mod unlocks higher tiers, rewarding dedicated use: Tier 1 (Base): Unlocked at Guardian Rank 2. Enables the stun. Tier 2 (Enhanced Mod): Unlocks bonus damage to the stunned Champion. Tier 3 (Master Mod): Extends the duration the Champion is stunned for, offering a crucial safety window in endgame content. Exotics Note: This system does not apply to Exotic weapons. Exotics should increasingly feature intrinsic Anti-Champion capabilities to preserve their unique identity. Part II: The Random-Rolled Artifact Loot Chase The Artifact is no longer a temporary power source. It becomes a permanent, randomized piece of equipment that expands the loot pool and enables targeted farming for specific build-enabling mods. 💎 Artifact Functionality: Gear Slot Addition: The Artifact becomes a 9th Permanent Gear Slot that drops from all activities (chests, encounters, vendors). Power Level: It functions like any other piece of gear, contributing to your Power Level and respecting Pinnacle/Powerful caps. No Stat Rolls: Artifacts do not provide any Mobility, Resilience, Recovery, etc., to keep their focus purely on Utility Mods. 📜 The Targeted God Roll Chase: Named Legendary Loot: All 21 previously released seasonal artifacts (e.g., Encrypted Data Disk, Gate Lord's Eye, Wayfinder's Compass, etc...) are reintroduced as Named Legendary Drops. Targeted Mod Pool: Each Named Artifact has a unique and exclusive loot table composed only of the mods available on that Artifact during its original season. Crucial Example: If a player wants Oppressive Darkness (Season 8), they must farm the "Gate Lord's Eye" artifact. If they want Particle Deconstruction (Season 15), they must farm the "Wayfinder's Compass" artifact. Roll Mechanics: Legendary Artifacts drop with 4 columns and 2 rows of random mods, totaling 8 rolled mods (any two combinations from each of the original four columns). The player can activate 4 of the 8 rolled mods simultaneously, allowing for flexibility within the unique artifact's roll. ⭐ Summary of Benefits This two-part proposal addresses core community desires with clear, implementable systems: ✅ Deep Investment: Players commit Glimmer and Cores to permanently enhance their favorite weapons through the Tiered Champion Mod System. ✅ Loot Scarcity & Grind: Introduces a true "God Roll" chase for the Artifact, encouraging targeted farming and activity engagement. ✅ Build Diversity & Agency: Players can use the weapons they love in endgame content without seasonal restrictions, while the Artifact provides powerful, unique utility mods (e.g., Anti-Champion mods are no longer forcing loadouts). ✅ Content Reuse: Reintroduces fan-favorite, powerful mods from previous seasons (like Oppressive Darkness and Breach and Clear) into the evergreen sandbox via the Artifacts' exclusive loot tables.
