There is a reason as to why people are running double special weapons and that is because primaries are usually so weak that you might get 1 or 2 kill per mag with certain weapons.
Even when you go to older content that is so much easier, primaries still feels boring due to how slowly they kill.
360 Auto rifles has been ignored for far too long. They are not in a good spot nor have they since launch.
Using primaries in harder content just feels awful, takes far to long to get a kill and most won't even be usable.
I like primaries and never really liked running double special, but it is hard not to when primaries is one kill per mag. If even that, some weapons needs to hit every single shot to get a kill, and i do mean every single one.

3 RepliesPrimary weapons feel great in at-Power content; what needs to happen is for fixed deltas to leave Portal activities.

1 ReplyWhat, don't you like emptying a clip into one enemy only to have it still kill you while you're reloading? The fact is they don't seem to know how difficulty should work. They increase fire rate, they increase accuracy of enemies, they increase damage received, they decrease player damage output, limit tactical options such as finding cover to fight from, everything spams area of effect damage. You can't do all of these things and have it be an enjoyable experience, and if the purpose behind playing the game isn't to have fun... Well... The exodus of players has demonstrated what people think of Bungie's priorities. They are trying to find ways to make "primary adjacent weapons" feel worth using again, which is why they have the rocket sidearms and pulse rifles, when really that is where normal kinetic damage should be. I feel like what they need to do is drop the increased enemy survivability entirely, stop making tanky enemies, period, especially since now an increasing number of bosses have immune phases or mechanics. Damage should be scaled off of how many enemies there are, how fast they fire, how fast they move, how smart they are, but I firmly believe that everything should die just as fast at end game content as they do at level matched content. At level matched content, for the most part primary weapons are okay. If you could kill those end game content enemies just as fast, there's just a lot more of them and a lot more damage going out, I think you'd svee a return to primary use.

Not only damage , also magazine sizes. Removing special ammo may be right direction.

2 RepliesLet's face it. Although Destiny has always been admired for its gunplay, the weapons and box has never made sense. Remember the days when you could get mapped by a shotgun, but snipers that were made for the job, were relatively weak? Hand cannons that could take a bisons head off, were doing less damage than tiny sidearms, which are basically BB guns. And as for pulse and auto rifles, these are weapons that could mow a forest down, yet while we struggle to contain a few red bars with them, a stick that lights up can clear entire rooms, champions, and some bosses quite easily. The game has had it, and there's no turning back. Space magic is not solely to blame for the mass exodus of many players, but I think it's played a good part.

Edited by Dragokin: 12/31/2025 12:03:27 AMBut if they buff primary ammo it will take less than 2 hours to complete missions.... And we can't have that

1 ReplyI think they should buff primaries to where special damage is, but buff special damage slightly and add primary ammo back.

3 RepliesHere’s the thing… they don’t want primaries to be good. They want you playing lightsaber and buying crystals. There is no way anyone can say they care about primaries or balance when they released this saber, with this artifact and gave it this ammo economy. FULL STOP. The quicker the community realizes that Bungie only wants balance according to their work load and playtime goals, the easier it is to understand. Primary balance will be something they champion in the future when they are done selling other things.

8 RepliesI mean, I run huckleberry and throwing knives. I always have a full mag, I get a kinetic tremor on every target. I can lead with a knife for radiance, or finish s target with one and regenerate it instantly. And each knife kill fills a gunpowder gamble for extra damage. Primaries could probably use a slight buff, but a lot of it build craft as well.

1 ReplyI feel like this is only true of the absolute hardest content in the game. I still use primaries frequently and very rarely feel like I’m at a disadvantage. But even that is a problem because they should still be viable in the hardest content. It also doesn’t help that Bungie is moving seemingly away from the one thing they have never messed up which is gunplay and instead trying to force in ability spam. The gunplay is literally the ONLY reason I still p.ay this game. If that becomes null and void, I’m gone.

1 ReplyEdited by Griever: 12/31/2025 8:05:46 PMThe problem I don't think is the strength of primaries, but that everything dropping gear at or tiered to our levels caps us 30-50 below the enemy. Now add in they've nerfed the artifact gear bonuses to 5% down from the 10-12-15% it started as in EOF and how the weapon stat isn't really worth building into when abilities can dish out so much more damage. They need to either remove the power deltas, buff primaries, buff the artifact, or they need to buff the weapon stat. And that's not accounting for if like the ability stats, having 30 or less on your weapon stat actually has you do LESS damage than we did before EOF. So on top of doing 10% less due to artifact nerfs, we're doing even less than that because of the weapon stat, and potentially less than that due to how activities are scaled now whether it's the activity becoming harder like Lawless activities or already starting harder than they're supposed to like Onslaught. In short, if the weapon stat works like the ability stats in that 30 and below is WEAKER than pre-EOF and if we include the artifact, we're doing around 20-30% less damage than we're supposed to be doing depending on your weapon stat. Now add in that the most "relevant" activities scale enemies at +30 at the start and go up to +50. So realistically, we're probably doing less than half we're supposed to if we include power deltas.

1 ReplyFriends and I were discussing this very thing last night. Summary of said conversation: > Bungie tried to solve 'power creep' with abilities (which are now creeping) > it's less shooter/looter and more Marvel Rivals > also known as: remove one rod and insert another Findings: Best fix: would be to BUFF PRIMARIES because Praxic has a shelf life that will ONLY be extended (slightly) if it isn't the ONLY weapon worth playing in the kinetic slot. (Sorry Mint. We still love you but the Fun Police have you in their sights and we need another plan). Bungie! Are you listening?

i agree, all guns need to get the delta scalar removed vs red bars and majors

1 ReplyAbility clear is in and Primaries are out. I wonder where the balance is.

6 RepliesNah primary weapons are fine. It those damn heat frame weapons that are a problem right now. Plus the trials weapons being severely overpowered for no reason, as always. Corrondum hammer has no reason to be so busted. All I've been seeing is heat frames though. If everyone is using them, then they're a problem.

Mine certainly does…in PVP 🤣🤣🤣
There is a reason as to why people are running double special weapons.
Yes, it’s mainly because Praxic blade has near infinite ammo, hits like a truck and everyone uses it. But I agree primaries could use a buff, especially at -30 and up.
