I haven't played PvP in a while and the moment I begin blowing out a hunter team in GGS, I get an anteater and my internet slows down to a crawl. Back in 2020-2022 it wasn't very common but I'm wondering now that the PvP team is focusing on Marathon, is anyone else getting anteaters the moment they begin to win?

As said, DDoS is very uncommon BUT it is still possible to crash lobbies with netlimiting (you can even kill players in free roam/patrol zones with netliming)... and it just happened to me in a Supremacy match, the whole lobby crashed after a minute.

Maybe back then in the earlier life of Destiny 2 and even in D1. Now? Not really common lol. I remember in D1 and talking -blam!- to some dude in PvP when I played on Xbox, bro said “Hope you enjoy offline games” and I couldn’t connect to the internet on any of my devices for a good hour 😂

Back in 2020 it was rampant

I think they did something to protect it but I could be completely wrong. The only thing you're gonna see on console now is 3rd party devices.

2 RepliesI haven't heard of it happening since Bungie started masking IPs. I seriously doubt anyone is Dossing you in a GG Supremacy game.

I don't know, but I made a comment here once before and will repeat it now: I have played a ton of PvP since day one and I've noticed over the years that I will sometimes get either Bungie friend requests or especially PSN friend requests at the BEGINNING of a match from someone on the opposite team. I ignore them to focus on the match but these are often followed up immediately with "Contacting Destiny 2 server..." It has happened enough times that I started to suspect they were somehow able to use these requests to grab my IP address and start spamming it with traffic. I could be wrong, but it's suspicious to send a request to a stranger on the other team at the start of a match. And even more suspicious to suddenly start having network problems for no apparent reason.

Edited by WinterSolstice: 4/7/2026 12:12:01 AMDdos are VERY rare but still possible. The thing is ddos's are attacks on someones internet and not the game itself. Your internet itself is constantly being updated with better protections against these attacks. Even older games that don't get updated anymore rarely see ddos attacks now because of this. Edit: Basically if you're the only one affected it's generally your provider failed to stop it. If EVERYONE is down then it means the attack was on Bungie's server but that would mean everyone would be down and likely including the Marathon players.

1 ReplyDdos are probably very common, but even if they weren't, Bungie's servers are dog water and have been for years. You'll get dropped just for sneezing in its general direction.

15 RepliesAll Destiny players have their IPs masked by Steam SDR, so, unless you leak your IP yourself, there is no way to be DDoSed.

Like every other report of cheating it’s not a thing to be concerned about. I’ve played the game since the start but have stopped recently. I can honestly say I’ve probably never , ever, come across cheating. I have come across lag, crap connection and been kicked a fair few times. All down to ‘normal’ stuff.

Edited by ⓇⒺⒹ•ⓈⒽⒾⒻⓉ: 4/6/2026 7:33:03 AMDdos is not what you think. In basic, It destroys your network in such a way that you can not connect with your network anymore. Because of that, it is considered a form of vandalism and, is illegal. You can actually sue people in court (if you have proof of who did it) So no, the way you describe it and what you experience is not a ddos attack. You experience something else, and it has to do with your own network connecting with the servers...

I got a mysterious weasel error after getting the top score in rushdown just now, and my internet connection was lost momentarily, then returned right away, for whatever that's worth, kindda iffy, no idea what's up

here's something the morons doing the ddos attacks probably don't realise its a federal crime to ddos so if they're getting that titled at a video game that they're willing to commit a federal crime just to protect their fragile ego then they must have a very sad and miserable life

Used to get spam invited to Xbox parties so they could grab your IP when you joined.
