Good morning, afternoon, or evening depending on where you are at, My name is Caleb, and my Destiny story began in the summer of 2014. I was a casual gamer at the age of 15 hanging out with my friends when a buddy at the time who loved Halo explained the up and coming Destiny game to me. When I first heard about what it would be I was relatively skeptical. However, come the week of the release I found myself diving into the world for the first time. I wasn’t as avid of a player as most. I was on PlayStation 3 and my friends were all on Xbox at the time. I never found the courage to beg people in the tower to help me with vault of glass. For me, Destiny was a game I came to when I was at my lowest. A year later I would move away from all my friends due to a layoff my father endured, and the spark for gaming would slowly die out. I would occasionally hop on at my lowest, play through a few missions, and find some other way to cope with the situation I found myself in. I’m not going to claim to be the OG that most people are able to claim. However that doesn’t take away from the meaning the game had for me. It wasn’t until I was a freshman in college that my love for Destiny rekindled. I played through all of Destiny 1 solo, and found myself entering the world of the red war in Destiny 2. From then I would take a few months apart from the Destiny franchise here and there. But it was never far off my mind. I played fervently from the beginning of shadowkeep until the last two months. The story that Destiny portrayed, while cosmic in nature, was easy to relate to. Falling, rising, falling, and rising again. I’m sure more players than not can relate to the sentiment, and I have no doubt the developers that have poured their love for the game over the years understand that feeling all the same. I am here to propose an idea, despite the overwhelming odds that it may never see the light of day. In the post I have linked a YouTube video to a dedicated player, willing to give their free time to preserve the true beginnings of Destiny 2. I ask with great sincerity that Sony and Bungie both consider the opportunity I am suggesting. This is one of many fan projects dedicated to the preservation and love for Destiny. The reality is that there are more talented developers and programmers out there that are willing and able to work on their own free time, away from family and friends to re create the beauty that made myself and many others fall in love with this universe. Would it be possible, for Bungie and Sony to create no pay/volunteer internship positions allowing these creators the inner workings of the tiger engine to restore past content to Destiny 2 and potentially port Destiny 1 to PC. I understand that I do not understand the slightest thing about creating a game. However I have the courage to speak on behalf of those that love Destiny and humbly ask that those already willing to give their own time, be given the opportunity for that to mean something greater than what they are already creating. This could be a dedicated strike team with only interns and perhaps one previous developer capable of explaining the limitations and inner workings of the tiger engine. Even if it were to be set up in a way where players could pick and choose which DLC they want active or not. Perhaps if all goes well, a way to pick and choose previous seasonal content that we wish to revisit, or stories we wish to hear once again. Of course some things are not possible, but, if anything thing were to be, I ask that the powers at be, listen to the words I have spoken. I’m not brazen enough to claim this will come at no cost. As I don’t understand what exactly happens in a studio, I don’t know what it cost to add members to team speak, or whatever company programs you have set up. I don’t understand the international implications of taking on those who are all from different countries. However, I do know that in the grand scheme of things, it will be priceless in the eyes of those who hold the game as dearly as I do. If there were a way to donate to the cause directly, I would not hesitate to do so. I’m not here to harp on Sony or Bungie for any previous decisions. I am humbly asking that the game we all know and and came to love be preserved properly. In my eyes, if this were to be its final resting place, I, along with many others, wish for the beauty that once was, and the beauty that is, to finally come together. Regardless of the outcome, I find myself at peace. I was dreading the long awaited end for a game that I hold so dear. And after watching many creators such as Aztecross, Khakis, Matics, and Houndish over the last few months, along with the sentiments shared by the community as a whole on Reddit, Tik tok, and other platforms, I understand that Destiny has meant more to others than I could even say myself. I say I find myself at peace, because I understand more than others that all good things must come to an end, and that I was only as frustrated and sad as I was, because Destiny truly meant something to me. If there is one thing I have learned, it is truly that guardians create their own fate. I will continue to do so regardless of whether or not something truly happens. However, whenever I find myself doubting myself, or losing the hope I currently hold. I hope to one day turn on my pc, and stand on the wasteland I found found in the cosmedrome many years ago to hear “eyes up guardian” once more.
