Dear Bungie, I'm writing this as a dedicated Destiny 2 player who simply wants to enjoy the game I love on my platform of choice. With Destiny 2's live support having ended, this feels like the [b]perfect moment[/b] to make this small quality-of-life change, this [b]"ultimate do-good"[/b] for the community. It costs almost nothing, introduces no meaningful security risk, and would allow fans like me to keep playing the game we love on our own terms. Now, I'm not asking for a native build or any significant engineering work, even though at some point, D2 had a native Linux build. The game ran on Stadia, which was built on Linux using Vulkan. A native Linux version existed for that platform. So this [b]isn't about technical feasibility[/b] - it's about flipping a switch that [b]BattlEye already provides.[/b] The game already installs and runs flawlessly through Proton on Steam: the only thing preventing login is a [b]single toggle for BattlEye's Linux support.[/b] BattlEye has [b]officially supported Proton since 2021,[/b] and enabling it is a manual configuration step on their dashboard, not a complex port. [b]I understand the concern about cheaters, so let me go directly to the facts.[/b] [u]Cheaters are a Windows problem[/u], [b]not a Linux one.[/b] The vast majority of cheat developers and cheat users operate on Windows. Cheat development is [b]overwhelmingly Windows-based[/b] because that's where the market is, data supports this: 94% of Steam users are on Windows, while [b]Linux represents only about 2-4%.[/b] The cheat development "industry" (or black market, for that matter) [b]simply doesn't invest in Linux;[/b] there are virtually no cheats for games on Linux, and I'm positive that most cheat developers have little to no experience developing for it. Enabling Linux support wouldn't open a new front for cheaters - it would only allow [b]legitimate Linux users to play.[/b] BattlEye on Linux runs in userspace, not at the kernel level. This is actually less of a security risk than the Windows kernel-level implementation. The idea that Linux support would increase cheating or somehow pose a security risk [b]just doesn't hold up[/b] when you consider that games like DayZ, ARK, Helldivers 2, Dead by Daylight, War Thunder, hell even CS2 and Dota run on Linux with an anticheat today without issue, some of these titles even I've mentioned run with BattlEye with that switch enabled. I'm [b]not[/b] asking for a new build or extensive testing, the game is just not continuing! I'm just asking for that toggle to be enabled so the game can finally work through Proton, as it already does for so many other titles. Thank you for reading this.
