One of the challenges of writing fan fiction is sticking to the canon, and a mark of a good fan fiction writer is someone who can tie the story into events in the canon, enhancing it rather than breaking it. And my Covenant call each other by first names. It makes them more identifiable and they're easier to pronounce.
