I am a teenager and I still have perfect 20/20 vision. Now, I'm not expecting this to last, so I have a question.
How do you know when you need glasses? Do you just wake up one day, and your vision is blurry?
-
If you notice that your vision isn't as good as it was you go see an eye doctor. I've had glasses since being in school though.
-
I didn't notice at first, but then I tried on a friends glasses for the sake of it and realised my vision was ten times better with them on.

You go blind, and you must go to a hospital. There, leeches will be placed under your eyelids to suck the fuzz out. In seriousness, you never know at first, the eye doctor just tells you at your check-up.

Edited by jutsu: 1/18/2013 3:35:14 AMOver time your eye sight starts to get worse. Doing things that are bad for your eyes will speed it up.
-
If you struggle to read things from a distance which you used to be comfortable with, you may need glasses. Same goes for if you struggle with things closer to you. If you start to notice that, pop into an opticians and get an eye check.

I had an issue with me eyes back in 2010, so I got my eyes checked out only to be told that I need Glasses due to one of my eyes being a dud and that was causing all my headaches... how ever I still have good vision with out the glasses and I don't wear em all the time, I just wear em when ever my dud eye starts giving me grief

When you can't read anything on the board that other people can, you know you need glasses. I've worn glasses all my life and my vision is getting noticeably worse. It's just a matter of comparing your vision to other people and noticing your lack of ability to see things that you know should be easily visible.

I was born half blind in 1 eye (Blurred vision) and have glasses for 12 years eventually they decided nothing will change and not even laser eye surgery would help, so now I don't wear glasses.
-
I wear contacts cause it is annoying for me to wear glasses. I figured I needed glasses when I couldn't see the god damn bored in class lol.
-
What makes you believe that this condition will not last? Just get your eyes checked by an optometrist to know for sure. Everybody's eyes are different. Some need correction very young, others as they age, some are fortunate and have good vision all their life. Just wait until you need bifocals (hope you don't). They're a pain to get adjusted to.

I started noticing in middle school that I had to squint to see anything written on the marker board. Now I have the worst vision ever. Thinking about lasik.
-
I've been wearing glasses since before I began Elementary School. Not sure if wearing them for that long has contributed to my decline in vision, but as it stands I can't read the word SMARTIES on a SMARTIES box that is further than my arm's length away (without squinting). Also, my left eye is noticeably worse than my right :(
-
I have "Lazy eye", which has absolutely horrible vision, even glasses can't help. My other eye is decent but not perfect, I wear glasses at college sometimes, but not on a regular basis.

Edited by Endoterrik: 1/22/2013 4:26:20 AMWhen you have trouble seeing the board from the back of the classroom. Well, that's when I realized I needed them, about 5th grade I think.
-
It's a progression of vision decay, really. My vision is god-awful, so I need to wear contacts right as I get out of bed.
-
End of 1st grade. Don't really remember why it happened but it's been with me since and I've hated almost every minute of it. But, I'd rather glasses than contacts any day, though I see (lol) Lasik in my future.

Had mine since I was in Kindergarten, I obtained glasses because I had a lazy left eye, and once I didn't need glasses I asked the Optometrist if I could get normal lenses on my glasses... It'd be too much of a change having to switch to no glasses. OT: I don't know... I've had glasses almost all of my life.
-
Regular eye exams help. however, if you notice you're having trouble reading then that's normally the best sign. Also, if you start getting headaches from reading, or for no reason at all, that's a sign that one eye may be worse than the other.
-
Well, when stuff starts getting blurry, it's normally a clear sign that you need glasses.

Edited by Leukocyte: 1/18/2013 3:45:17 AMI've have had mine since 2nd grade, I noticed I couldn't read the board and told my parents and wala glasses, then in high school I started to wear contacts but then I realized I love glasses so now I have 3 pairs of glasses. When I turn 21 I will get laser eye surgery

Edited by VerticalGradient: 1/18/2013 3:42:12 AMI've worn corrective lenses since grade school. I had an eye examination and found that my vision was quite poor, and I also had a lazy eye. The lazy eye has long since been corrected, but my vision's pretty much the same, I think. I mean, when you don't have glasses you don't really know what you're missing, right? My sister got glasses sometime after I did, because she tried mine on and found that she could see much better. I think that if you have 20/20, you'll be able to eventually notice deteriorating eyesight.

I noticed my vision was a little blurry a distances, and I have annual optician appointments anyway.
-
Protip: Keep the brightness on your computer/tv down. All the light ruins your eyes.

Edited by Felicia402: 1/18/2013 3:38:16 AMIt started for me in grade 6, I believe? Couldn't see the board so I had to get glasses. Only wore them when taking notes from the board. Started to rely on them more and more but refused to wear them all the time. A few years after I wanted color contacts so I got my eyes tested again. When I put them in I could see everything SO much clearer, that's when I really realized how bad my vision was. Now I can't go anywhere without glasses or contacts.
