I've heard there wasn't actually ammunition in the gun and that it was just a gas powered gun.

Odd. After the man swiped it away from his face, the guy holding the gun looked legitimately... shocked.

That look on the opposition leader's face and the would-be assassin's face after the gun is swatted to the side is priceless. For a moment it looks like both are thinking, "Wait, did that just actually work/happen?"
