0.9999 doesn't equal 1 because it's not the same number. Idiots. Prove me wrong.

This thread's about as original as the missionary position.
-
.999 = .999. Therefore, .999 =/= 1. You're a genius OP.
-
Never tell me the odds
-
0.999 = 1 The answer is a resounding...YES. It's in the text
-
OP is actually right. 0.9999 does not = 1. However, 0.9999... does.
-
1/3 = .33333333333333333333..... 2/3 = .66666666666666666666..... 3/3 = .99999999999999999999..... = 1 /thread

You have two numbers stated. First it's .999 and in the OP it's .9999 . It's painfully obvious that both of those don't equal 1.
-
You are correct, 0.9999 does not equal 1. 0.9999... taken to the limit of infinity does equal 1.
-
0.999999 =/= 1. 0.999999.....=1. And that's how it's done.
-
Edited by I IRONMAN I: 1/11/2013 3:25:06 AMHuh, what? I just rounded it and .9999.... turned into a 1.
-
Second grade Math. Round it. Proven wrong.
-
.9999 does not equal one, you are correct. .9999999..... does equal one, because of limits, NOT because of rounding. Rounding is an estimation. Although limit thoughts are, in essence, the rounding of infinity.
