What's your favorite airport?

Odd question, I know. I fly a lot, so I spend a lot of time in airports. I'm particularly fond of Chicago O'Hare [ORD]. Plenty of food and the walkways between terminals are fun. I also enjoy Long Beach, CA [LGB]. It's super tiny, you just walk onto the tarmac. There's no baggage claim. No jetways. It's quaint.

  • I've only been to Newark International (EWR), Tokyo-Narita International (NRT), Charlotte-Douglass International (CLT), and Little Rock (LIT). I had the most fun at Charlotte. It had those flat escalators, people movers whatever.

  • Reno Nevada. Easy and small airports are the best. I absolutely hated the one in Paris.

Narita Airport in Japan is my all time favorite. You can get sushi cut, wrapped, and packed in ice to take on your flight with you. There are entire shops dedicated to origami, and Legos. The security is solicitous and kind yet efficient. It is absolutely one of the best airports towards people with prosthetic limbs, because they are so non-intrusive in their inspections and helpful, respectful, and quick. Contrast that with PDX here in Oregon, and it's a nightmare to go through if you have any sort of mobility issue whatsoever, even if you have the quick pass security clearance set up. Some of their overeager home-sec folks have absolutely zero tact, no manners, and are borderline aneurism inducing with their attitude that every prosthetic is a bomb that needs discovered. The only good thing about PDX is the presence of the vendor who sells Rogue Brewery Voodoo Maple Bacon Doughnut Beer, the numerous Powell's Bookstores including the used bookstore, and the super awesome chick with the tattoos, massive piercings, 1950's catseye glasses and beehive hair who will pull espresso shots for you in the middle of the night when every other stand in the whole joint has folded up shop.

  • Toss up between Atlanta(nice food court, and the delta lounge is nice) and Tokyo-Nagita(lack of traffic/long lines, lax security, and the delta lounge was very nice), followed closely by Louis Armstrong Ariport in N.O.(because its the local airport and I know it well). I absolutely despise the Miami airport though. all the workers are -blam!-s and the lines are ridiculous.

None of them. Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to dispose of that 9oz+ container of fluid/cream/gel. The six 3oz containers are fine. Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to take off your shoes and belt and place them in this bucket for us to x-ray. Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to step into this device which will take a picture of you naked. Sir, I'm going to have to ask you to step off to the side, you've been 'randomly' selected. Sir, I'm going to have to pat your genitals. Sir, I'm going to have to stick my hand up your ass.

  • LAX is my hometown. I like the architecture, but it's nothing special inside. Sea-Tac is kind of a pain because you have to take a train to your terminals, and they get crowded. My favorite was somewhere in Chicago.

Long beach airport! Oh my god, the easiest and most smoothly operating airport I've ever been to. Charle reminded me of Heathrow. I like Heathrow. I got assisted by an elderly, funny Sihkish man on my arrival.

  • I've only ever been to 3 airports in my life. One was in/near Chicago, not sure if was O'Hare or the other really big one there. I remember running down those moving walkways back and fourth.

I actually didn't like o'hare, visually at least. I got to my flight very fast and easy though. Isn't the town next to O'Hare where John Wayne Gacy killed people? My gf used to live there and that's what she decided to tell me while we were quietly driving through the town at midnight on our way to the airport. Washington Dulles (IAD) is pretty cool looking architecture. The Detroit airport has a cool glowing walkway tunnel which pretty trippy to walk through. When I went through it I was about 5 minutes late for my flight and was pretty much running through it. I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted ot.

  • I've only been to Sydney, London, Hong Kong, (some airport in LA) and two local airports, but it would probably be Heathrow, because if memory serves me correctly, it's organized pretty well.

I've been to most of the major airports in the Continental US and several in Asia and Europe. My favorite airport in the world, by a mile, is Hong Kong International. Crazy efficient, lots of stuff to do and places to eat for long layovers, clean, and modern. In the States, the best major airport to get onto your plane quickly is undoubtedly Reagan National. The best airport for long layovers is Denver.

    • The only airports in the US I've been to are Miami, Newark and I believe it was Tampa. The rest were European, usually Spanish islands. None were anything special. Heathrow is always the airport I leave from, and it is one of the biggest and busiest in the world, so it's probably my favourite. Can't say I always enjoy my time in airports though.
