That gamers don't like complication? Look at some of the most played/praised games of all time.
Halo 1,2,3
Zelda
COD 4
Mario
Minecraft
Pokemon
Not to mention numerous others. We're gamers. Most of us work towards a goal when we play games. And to me it seems like a lot of the features companies like to add are getting in the way. And I'm not saying we're all the same, but a lot of us seem to like to jump in a game and play. Not sit in the menu and pick settings for 20 minutes.
So what are your thoughts? Do you like being control over EVERYTHING? Or would you rather just jump in and play?

There's this psychological study that's been done that shows how people given a huge amount of different options for something (like ice cream flavors for instance) tend to be much less happier with their decision than people who were given only two or three options. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Games need to have a simple premise that is easy to get into, but have lots of layers to keep you playing.

id software alsways puts ease of access as a high priority. Many time John Carmack said that you should be able to turn on a game, click a few times and youre in the game.

Well games were mean't to be played but I do enjoy games which allow me to customize a character so I do like settings to some extent.
