Thanks for posting this interesting video.

I still cannot understand why ValvE is so loved. They made some amazing games, then stopped, created the world's biggest semi-DRM platform for games, and then proceeded to voice their opinion on everything.
-
I am going to watch this eventually...
-
I found a photoshopped picture of him.

Holy crap an hour. This is gonna be sweet, thanks much Ken. brb with a reply.

Gabe uses tons of big words. My brain doesn't like big words. I like my videos with pretty pictures.
-
Watching, dispite my love of video games, I have never heard of this guy. I've heard of Valve, but never followed their development practises like I have Bungie. This should be good!
-
A really incredible discussion. In my opinion, there isn't enough discussion on these issues. Steam is brilliant and the storefront/property rights issues are going to continue to grow as we continue to have more and more ownership over digital content. I'd love to sit down and talk to Valve's economist.

Great video. It's worth the watch. I hope the industry changes in the way he predicts.

I think he's spot on and a very forward thinking. What he said about Apple is probably true too. I know I can be patient for HL3, because I'd rather see something amazing come out instead of more of the same. HL2 was absolutely unbelievable when it was shown the first time, because in-game physics like that had never been done to that level before. Good things come in time.

Edited by Trollheim: 2/1/2013 9:46:00 AMI feel like Valve has gone off the deep end a little bit. Like, that's great that they're making ooddles of cash off microtransactions, but where's Half-life 3? I watched the whole thing, but I feel like Gabe is looking WAY too far forward, when right now we still need Valve to make games. Perhaps when his vision comes to pass, the community structure will be built up to the point where the fans can make Half-life 5 themselves, but we're not there yet.
No, they're not selling drugs. They're making...uh...hats
I lol'd.

Valve is fine and all, but their games don't excite me that much. My favorite valve game is still CS 1.6, they've done two CS games after that and none of them was as good as the 1st which is sad.

Once again our Lord and master, Gabe Newell has astonished me with his fantastic ideas. It would be nice to see those ideas in practice though.
-
I'll have to remember to check this out later

*insert gaben joke here*

Edited by Malfar: 2/1/2013 8:07:46 AMThanks OP for sharing, he seems like a very intelligent person, with lots of great insight. I never knew you could make money selling hats... Gabe just may be my new role model. (Note to self, if Deej ever asks you about talent, experience, and work ethics. Include that "talent is just another word for the ability to be productive"..)

Could he be Santa?

Im might give it a watch.
