In their opening keynote address at the annual D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas today, Valve co-founder Gabe Newell and Star Trek director J.J. Abrams announced they are working on an unannounced game project together.Abrams and Newell spoke at length about the differences between film and games and the challenges for each medium in telling a good story. After critiquing and praising each other's work through various clips from films like Cloverfield and Star Trek and games like Portal, Half-Life, and Half-Life 2, Abrams and Newell announced they have been speaking at length about joining forces to make a game.
Newell also announced that he is investigating the possibility of working with Abrams on a Portal or Half-Life film.
Pretty exciting news.

I reject their reality and substitute the Team Fortress movie.
-
What if they name the movie Half Life 3?
-
Monopoly, thy name is Abrams.

That would be pretty cool. This guy is on fire though, damn. I hope he hasn't bitten off more than he can chew or his career may be over. Hell hath no fury like an angry gamer (See Mass Effect 3).

Edited by RyanDMC: 2/6/2013 11:27:37 PMWhy does J.J. Abrams suddenly get all the cool franchises? He's an average director with no signature style. He isn't bad but he's not good either. Seriously. The Star Trek movie was pretty good and I want to see the second but why does he now get Star Wars AND Half Life AND Portal? WE might as well give him Halo and Mass Effect too since he is apparently now the king of nerd culture movies.

J.J. -blam!-s things up. Literally.
-
How many damn things is J. J. Abrams doing at once?!

A portal film would be boring and confusing. Just 1 person doing puzzles over and over would get kinda boring. But if they did Portal 2 than there is potential for a movie, but not much. Half Life 2 would be the only one that I would like. Half Life isnt that great to me, but the Combine are really cool and would make for a more centralized movie.
-
Just stay with Star Trek please.
-
Great. Time for Star Wars to get a new director whose undivided attention will be to that and that alone.
