Seems like 99% of the people I talk to or met want to end up in a dead end job earning $60,000 a year and living happily. I too also went to have a career that will never make me rich, but I want to be successful in terms of wealth so I will invest and work my ass off.
How come nobody ever tries to be a millionaire?

I could spend 12 years in school, become an ophthalmologist, and take over my mom's business that pulls in about a million a year. Of course, with the inevitable socialization of medicine this will be a lot less so it might not be worth the time I spend. If I decide not to pursue that path, I'm going to become a chemical engineer. They make quite a bit money, so there's that.
