One of the most interesting things I have heard about Destiny is it's ability to connect people and allow players to randomly meet each other playing campaign, multiplayer, etc. Social interaction definitely seems to be important but I really think this game should allow players to be able to actively trade with each other.
Lets say you find a cool weapon somewhere and someone else wants it, you could trade for a new cool weapon. Lets say you are pinned down and out of ammo, maybe your co-op buddy can give you ammo. Maybe you could even trade things like armor or in-game unlocks/currency.
It should work in that players can go to a trade menu and view the offers for the trade. They then can agree or make a counter offer by asking for other items or offering new items. (Maybe like Borderlands).
I think that allowing players to actively give and trade items would be a MAJOR addition to the game and foster even greater social interaction among roaming players who come across other players.

I think it should work almost like a Pokemon trade. 1. Trade screen appears in center of screen. 2. Players have a view of each others inventories. 3. Each player moves an item from his own inventory into the offer bubble. 4. When both players select "confirm trade" they switch the offered items.

I'll trim your Armor.

Guys if any of you would like to enter the world of Destiny with a Faction for when all of this starts come Join us!: New Monarchy
-
That's a neat idea
-
That would be pretty cool and probably would be in the game. If you can affect your friend's game via the mobile app, then I bet you'll be able to trade.
-
This is popular in MMO games. The problem with that is once that is implemented (especially with an "auction house" type mechanic) the balance of how the game is supposed to be played can be thrown out the window. Also it allows for currency inflation in the game world, and people start selling in-game currency for cash. So if they do it they just need to do it right. I like the ammo idea, possibly just sharing equipment while out roaming/completing missions could work.

If any of you guys are apart of the New Monarchy faction and love it then join this group by clicking on the link.

"Players will be able to visit the Overwatch District in order to meet with other players and participate in activities such as gambling, competitive multiplayer, or meeting up with friends to embark on missions." I'm sure you'll be able to trade in the Overwatch district too.

And so begins the "WTT [Crappy helm of nothing] for [Awesome boots of Kickassery] PST."

I can't wait. :-)

Edited by Mairuzu1337: 2/18/2013 1:59:45 PMI agree with you. I find this fusion of MMO with FPS console gaming very exciting. Im looking forward to just going to the Tower and socialising with people. Prepping our armour for our next quest or having a quick mini game of gambling together whilst we wait for "Fred" to log on. The potential is there, but how likely this is to be reality is a concern. A lot of it could just be wooly advertising.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Bungie.net app or mobile app with a marketplace to buy (with in-game money) or trade (with in-game items) for weapons, armor, items, etc. It'd be a great way to integrate more than one device into Destiny. Being able to play a game with more than one controller in a way that I'll get to a stopping point, put down the controller, go on my iPhone or laptop, purchase something in the marketplace, and then go retrieve it from some mailbox thing somewhere would be amazing. Think WoW's Auction House made into an iPhone app.
-
Oh, this is going to be sweet.
-
That'd be cool. Like a player controlled bartering system.
-
Trading is the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard about what Destiny was like. Hopefully there is an in game currency and a marketplace where you can put items up for sale and other people can browse through and compare prices. The only problem with virtual money is inflation but maybe since items are unlimited too it will balance the prices out.

I feel like Destiny is going to be a Sci-Fi FPS version of Runescape. And I really hope I'm right.

Edited by Arky: 2/18/2013 3:30:49 AMKotaku said something about a town where people gamble for better gear.
You're free to move around and explore different planets or hang out in hub cities like Overwatch where you can find people gambling for better gear.
I think there would need to be a lot of different weapons in order to make trading them worth it.
-
Not really sure what to think of this. I'm not used to this kind of function within games.
-
:| not sure how I feel about the idea of armor trading. Fable 2/3 are the only games that come to mind for something similar, and I wasn't a fan of that. I'll wait and see.
-
I want the ability to auction off items. Let the noobs fight over my amazing weapons!
-
Nice idea. Like if your friends about to get off and he has the item required to complete the mission.
-
I'd love to sell my weapons that don't appeal to me anymore, in order to get more awesome'er ones.■
-
Interesting concept, I would think that would be pretty cool.
-
Hm...that would be cool.
-
I'm almost positive they said you can do this.
