Seems like the government is trying to push equality by taking out a law that basically discriminates against gays and lesbians. If DOMA is indeed struck down, that'll be one step closer to social equality.
Edit: DOMA stands for: Defense of Marriage Act, which basically says, "Only a man and a woman can get married."

It's going to be exciting to watch the supreme court court go over this, especially since there is a really high chance that they will find DOMA unconstitutional.
