10 Years of Destiny

Bungie has said that they hope to stretch the Destiny franchise out over 10 years. I hope they pull it off but well.... 10 years is a long time. Can you guys see yourselves playing Destiny over such a long time? They're gonna need a miracle to hold peoples attention that long, even allowing for the traditional MMO strategy of a ton of additional dlc/expansions. GW1 and 2 didn't hold me any longer than it took me to beat the main quests. Does being a FPS give destiny an advantage when it comes to replayablility? Because I have been playing a lot of Halo 4 and I am so tired of shooting Prometheans. Also, FPS is not exactly a niche genre, we can assume Destiny will have some competition. I would love to enjoy Destiny for as long as possible and so offer these humble suggestions: Little info has been given of the types of "quests" available in Destiny but I think its important that we be able to enjoy a quest more than once. If we get a mission to ambush a fallen patrol, that patrol shouldn't always follow the same path or be comprised of the same units. Also wouldn't it be great if each "quest" has a serious of difficult bonus awards like snipe the leader first, ambushing them right out of the gate, stop them from calling for help or suffering no casualties. So that even after you complete the quest you can try it gain and its still just as fun 2-3 times later. Engaging enemies are important as well. They need to be unique, challenging and aggressive. As an example of what not to do, I give you Halo 4 enemies (I know not a bungie game) They are not aggressive. If you back away from them they never chase you and instead do a little dance in some predetermined area. Terrible. Also every enemy is defeated with the same strategy, they have health and shields and use the environment to their advantage not at all, you would think that the Covenant and Prometheans like getting shot in the face. If your sitting behind a rock, facing 10 guys they shouldn't dance around taking pot shots but do the math and murder you charging together. Enemies should have unique weaknesses, weakspots, movement and abilities. The only enemy I like from Halo4 are the flying support bots, they fly, throw back grenades, shield allies and have a self preservation instinct. Bungie did a great job with Elite squads in Reach, those special forces (Red) Elites scared the hell out of me every time, they would hunt you down. What do you guys think? What would it take for you to play a shooter for over a year?

 • Halo Four wasn't the game we needed it to be. It wasn't a Bungie game. That is where they succeeded in keeping us all those years with Halo. With Halo, you had the multiplayer itself that kept us there. Possibility was our friend, and impossibility non-existant. We had fun, we played the game because we wanted to play it. Because they made those games the games we wanted to play. The customization, the communities ability to create, experience, and share those creations and experiences are what kept us together for so long. I don't think they'd stray from this. I'd hope not anyway. They know what it takes to keep people hooked.
