US vetoes UN vote for condemnation over Syrian bombing

Sorry in advance for finding a Russian-based article, but basically the US used its power as a G5 nation in the United Nations Security Council to strike down a vote to condemn a suicide bombing against the Syrian government (that also happened to hit the Russian embassy and a school). The criticism was that the ultra-conservative Obama administration used double standards against the Syrian government instead of unconditional condemnation of all terrorist attacks. I also would like to say that relations between the US and Russia are rapidly deteriorating.

  • U.S.-Russian relations have always been tense, and will continue to be tense for the foreseeable future, especially as Russia attempts to egg China and India on towards war, supports Iranian aims, and attempts to establish regional hegemony in Eastern Europe. That said, it's most likely our way of getting back at the Russians for refusing to do anything substantial about Syria. If they refuse to play, then we will too.
