Helping out the homeless? Giving people a place to stand? Doing good in this word? So long as it doesn't cost me a penny.
This mentality pisses me off. Why do people hate welfare? Because they have to chip in an extra ten or so dollars a month. God forbid you show some compassion. And yet we always toot the trumpet of "poverty is bad", and "goodwill toward all men on Earth". God, that's phony.
Anyone else agree?

Welfare is fine for people who actually need it, and who make every effort possible to get themselves out of needing it. The sad truth is, however, that many people here, myself included, know of people and probably entire families who abuse and exploit the system without trying to better themselves. What makes it worse are those families who raise their children into thinking that it's ok to be on welfare. I don't recall if it was you or someone else, but in a similar thread, someone said they should be allowed to use welfare money for their leisure. That's not what welfare money is for. It's supposed to be for the things you need, like food, water, shelter, and clothes. Not cigarettes, alcohol, drugs.
