Helping out the homeless? Giving people a place to stand? Doing good in this word? So long as it doesn't cost me a penny.
This mentality pisses me off. Why do people hate welfare? Because they have to chip in an extra ten or so dollars a month. God forbid you show some compassion. And yet we always toot the trumpet of "poverty is bad", and "goodwill toward all men on Earth". God, that's phony.
Anyone else agree?

Edited by Diplomat: 2/27/2013 3:09:58 AMI dislike welfare because in contributes to the oppression of the lower classes, and is overall a waste of our valuable time and resources. Since the massive welfare reforms of the 1960s, first enacted by Johnson, the poverty rate in the United States has remained at a steady 14%, doing absolutely nothing to help aleviate the suffering of the lower classes. Yet, people still believe that the program is something that should be saved. Disgusting. If anything, all that wasted money we put into welfare should go into work programs like the Civilian Conservation Corps, which would rebuild Amercica's crumbling infrastructure, and give people trade skills. That's why I dislike our entitlement based society, it's a waste that does more harm than good. Honestly, in my opinion, welfare is one of the worst programs funded by our government.
