Now, I know this isn't Halo Waypoint, so I'm trusting you guys to let me speak my mind. I don't want this thread to be "YEAHH DOWN WITH HALO 4, DOWN WITH FRANKIE" or anything like that, I'd rather it be a place that we can just discuss this game, the good, the bad, the ugly.
Halo 4 sucks. It sucks hard, to me. Okay, maybe I'm being a bit callous, but they're is a lot missing, and almost as many things that were added to the game that didn't need to be, and were forced down the playerbase's (what's left of it) collective throats, without even putting in the option to play without these new features. I'd make a list of these particular issues but it's been done time and time again, and you probably already know it.
Why can't Halo 4 maintain a stable, large and healthy population? Why is it that, evidently, only 1/10th of the people who bought Halo 4 still play it today? Or as best we can guess, nobody plays it every day and there are unknowns such as people who don't have XBL.
No doubt Call of Duty plays into the low population a bit, the shooter genre is dominated by three categories now:
A) The big name title, CoD coming out every year
B) Other companies trying to imitate the game's success and steal it's audience (which never works) and
C) the occasional good and original FPS that is released, only to be crushed or at least crippled by CoD's success, with some rare exceptions
I have a feeling 343i's mishandling of some elements of it's post launch support also helped, and maybe even some of the things that have been in the game since launch that are still irritating fans. Either way, I'm still baffled.
Why did Halo 4 fail? What do you guys think?

Edited by omg a bannana: 3/6/2013 1:02:43 PM>Shitty campaign >Shitty campaign gameplay >Stupid new enemies which are just teleporting bullet sponges >Basically doing the same thing over and over in campaign >Random stupid drama with Cortana to make the story seem more personal >Forerunner General killed by quicktime event >Forerunners look stupid as shit >Spartan Ops >Forge having maps that look pretty but suck for editing >Spartan Ops >Forge's maps combined are smaller than Forgeworld from Reach >At least Reach was trying to be an arena shooter but mixing up the formula so it wouldn't be stale, while Halo 4 is Halo of Duty giving the most retarded of players the ability to be good. >Ordinance system >Map not even spawning power weapons anymore besides at like the start of the map WHAT THE -blam!- >Able to spawn with a shotgun as a secondary >Everyone has sprint so as soon as they're in trouble they run away, but when you run after them you can't shoot while you're running so it's basically cat and mouse for a minute >Terrible playlists >They somehow managed to have LESS custom games than previous games! >Ranking system which doesn't involve skill at all just how much you play the game. >New ranking system that you can only see on Waypoint LOL >5 months to get the file system up and running >Valhalla >Ghost is stupid as shit now, people will run me over by lightly tapping my butt but when I ran them full force they just go 3 feet to the left >The connections >Mantis doesn't even belong in Halo, it feels like it's just there so fanboys wouldn't whine to 343 about no new vehicles. >Loadouts >Broken killcams >JIP >Instant Respawn >Flag Carrier can shoot and can't drop flag. Also fanboys will of course be saying "omg u can't handle change what would obama do", "halo charts is not a good source even though it shows a steady rate of people leaving over time so i don't even"

Its not a good game. Its boring. And a game being boring is worse than any broken mechanics or armor lock or whatever it is people cry about on the forums these days. It has failed to entertain me, and a lot of other people. And that's sad.
-
Most played and most sold Halo game to date. Not really a failure.
-
Edited by Xynadria: 3/6/2013 9:19:59 PMIn my opinion, it didn't fail. I have just as much fun playing it as I have the other Halos, it would be nice to have some friends to play customs with though, like the good old Halo 3 days, but other than that I see nothing wrong with the game. Campaign is good, gameplay is good. That's all I have to say.
-
It's not perfect, but it's 343i first proper game. Give them some slack.
-
Halo 4 is not a failure. If you say it is then you are being a an ignorant hater. Just because it has things done in ways that you don't agree with doesn't mean the game failed. Did Reach fail? No, yet everyone now misses it when before it was the most hated thing Halo. Idiots like you make me sick. I like Halo 4. It's a good game. Maybe not up to level with past titles, but it is nonetheless a good game. I actually liked the campaign, which was vastly superior to Reach's.
-
Haven't played it yet but the campaign looks fun and has nice graphics.
-
Too many halo fanboys defending halo 4. Come on now. I love halo as much as the next guy but this game sucks. The ONLY playlist that is playable is Throwdown.
-
They failed horribly with the Limited edition. As for gameplay I actually like H4, it's not my favorite Halo but I enjoy playing it. I like it a lot more then Reach. Reach kind of turned me off from Halo but H4 is bringing me back.

Sorry but I stopped after I found myself back in Valhalla again..It was like, WTF??, Seriously??
-
Change = Evolution. Halo 4 is a good game. Maybe it's not the game we were waiting for, but I like it.
-
Your only complaint is the population? Sad, especially considering there are many games out now so it's reasonable. My only complaints are the boltshot and not being able to hear the ghost, it's awesome everywhere else and has a beautiful campaign. Reach is truly the most idiotic Halo, and not only did 343 fix that horrible game, they made a fantastic game. I can't wait to see what they can do not that they have experience.
-
The number of maps it shipped with was pathetic. I was bored with it not even a week after it came out. I went back to playing Assassin's Creed 3.

Edited by Dylan: 3/6/2013 5:52:56 AMIt kind of depends on what the criteria are for a failure. Financially, I wouldn't call Halo 4 a failure (although, we'll see how the next one sells), but there is a plethora of very poor design (on many fronts) in the game. 343 Industries has now twice in a row demonstrated that they don't really know what they are doing. There are so many poor decisions in Halo 4 that I have lost absolutely all interest in the game and potentially the series. I really just didn't enjoy the game at all. This could in part be because I'm not into shooter games particularly. In fact, Bungie's (first three) Halo games are among the very few I like all that much at all. I'm also extremely critical. There are very few games that truly impress me, and I will not waste my time with games that I feel are mediocre (with a few rare exceptions).
-
I liked it but it wasn't that good it just didn't feel complete
-
Edited by Pride: 3/6/2013 4:16:07 AMBecause it didn't fail. Because I liked it. Because you're trying to push down your opinion on us. Because I actually like the game. Because other people liked the game. Because people play it. Because some people are blind. That's why it failed. That's why it failed miserably and no one bought the game.
-
Change is good. Bad change isn't.
-
Halo 4 failed? Still seems like the best Halo since Halo:CE to me.
-
Edited by Green Twister: 3/5/2013 9:13:49 PMbla bla bla , people can't handle change...
-
I enjoy it. Best multiplayer in the series since 3. That's all I care about.

*Goes back to playing Halo 4*
-
Bitch bitch moan bitch bitch
-
I haven't gotten a chance to play it yet. I'm hoping to find a nice cheap used copy somewhere. Anybody? =)
-
Halo 4 didn't fail.

All the issues can be boiled down to two factors; lack of variety and lack of focus. Catering for casuals, with instant respawn and JIP, makes for a game with no drama, and not finishing the game with variants like Assault makes for a game with no variation. It's boring.
