Fans and retailers aren't the only people upset that DC has hired very vocal gay rights denier Orson Scott Card to write the digital-first Adventures of Superman comic; artist Chris Sprouse, who was due to illustrate Card's take specifically, has just quit the book due to the controversy. Sprouse gave a statement earlier today:
"It took a lot of thought to come to this conclusion, but I've decided to step back as the artist on this story. The media surrounding this story reached the point where it took away from the actual work, and that's something I wasn't comfortable with. My relationship with DC Comics remains as strong as ever and I look forward to my next project with them."
Due to Sprouse's departure, the first issue (out May #29) will now feature a story by Jeff Lemire and artist Chris Samnee instead of Card's, as DC search for a new artist who is comfortable with this extremely uncomfortable situation.
Sauce.
So what do you think of this continuing brouhaha involving Orson Scott Card and DC comics? Do you care that buying his works funds his ability to actively oppose gay rights? Are you going to boycott the Ender's Game movie?

Ender's Game is overrated anyway.

I'm going to continue to love the shit out of his work and see the Ender's Game movie approximately 12 times in theaters because the fact that he is a flaming anti-LGBT rights activist doesn't have any bearing on my enjoyment of his brilliant work. Henry Ford hated Jews, but he made a damn fine truck.

Edited by Madman Mordo: 3/6/2013 5:28:15 PMYou think this wouldn't happen with one of their fictional characters recently coming out of the closet.
Are you going to boycott the Ender's Game movie?
Hell no. I like the Enderverse and I find it interesting. I'm looking forward to that movie. I'm not going to let his views and opinions change my outlook on his books or the move. They have nothing to do with each other. I'm not fond of his stance, but I like and respect him as an author.

Edited by BROWN HAWK: 3/6/2013 3:47:06 PMWell I'm not into comics stuff, but I've been a fan of the Enderverse since I starting reading them last year. I don't approve of his stance, but I'll still enjoy his books. Wouldn't have ever guessed. (The film didn't seem like it was going to be good anyways, IMO, so no cares about that).

I think people really overstate Card's "homophobia". It is true, he does not want gays to marry, but he has laid his reasoning out here. While I may disagree with most of it, I do think he has at least a tempered approach to the subject. He points out that homosexuality is not any more of a sin than pre-marital, heterosexual sex, and even explains his empathy toward uncontrollable sexual desires. He even points out that homosexuals are no less talented, and do not have diminished character. It seems to me he has put a lot more thought and reason behind his arguments than most religious opposition to gay marriage. His position is squared entirely around his church's teachings. The guy is devoutly religious, and came to one of the most moderate positions you can come to if you really believe homosexuality can damn an immortal soul to hell. I don't think he has any ill will towards homosexuals, in fact, I think he tries pretty hard to sympathize with them. He is just obeying the rules of his church. So, I think if people have a problem with his statements, it shouldn't so much be a problem with him, but with the church.

Why would I boycott the movie? That's not going to do anything but ruin the movie for me. You can't change someone who is opposed to gay marriage, because they will never listen. Well, that's a generalization, but in this case, boycotting will likely do nothing.

he's entitled to what ever opinion he wants. Unless he has super man everyone fahgs I don't really care.
