I stand on having a physical copy over a digital anytime, anyday. The smell, the feel of having the book in your hands, turning the pages, caring if a page gets bent or folded, having your collection neatly stacked... I find it all to be vastly superior to what a Kindle or any other electronic device can offer to the senses, which make the experience all the better. While digital can offer a simple place to have all your books stored in one place, it just isn't the same. It's like if you were reading yet another article on the internet. It doesn't feel as a book should, and no amount of little details (swiping your finger across the screen to turn page) can compensate for it. You can't give a friend a digital copy like you could a physical book. You can't knock someone out as effectively with a big physical book as you could with a kindle or computer without wrecking it. There is no search for the book online as there would be in the book store. So many little details that make physical copies the king in the past, present and also the foreseeable future, IMO.
Anyways, where do you guys stand on this matter? Do you prefer the digital or physical copies of books?

I used to prefer physical, but I'm running out of room and digital is just so much more convenient.
-
I just can't bring myself to read digital books. You gotta have that feel of the physical print.
-
Most books I prefer digital, but if it's a book I'm very fond of I usually get a physical copy.
-
I prefer physical copies of books. However, my book collection is becoming a bit large and will be a huge pain when I move.
-
I prefer digital but I tend to buy physical so I can gift them.

Edited by Edmi Wohusee: 3/17/2013 6:49:51 PMWell, digitally purchasing books saves trees. It also doesn't take up as much space. Plus, it's convenient carrying multiple books wherever you need to without ever needing to switch out. So I say digital.

As far as I'm concerned, digital books don't even exist.
-
Usually physical copies, but ever since I got my iPad I've been leaning towards digitial.

E-books because of size

Physical books. I plan on having a large, intellectual, and cool private library when I have my own home.
-
I honestly haven't picked up a book in ages, however I much rather have the actual book than reading it on a screen. Same goes for comics as well. It's convenient having an app which allows you to purchase any comic you want at any time, but if I had the patience, I'd just find all the issues online and get them sent to me.

Physical book master race. Don't want to simulate sunlight at 12 AM either.

dat smell, dat feel,... it ranks behind new car and smokehouse BBQ as good smells.

Edited by L00: 3/12/2013 7:11:15 PMI'm not sure why, but I just like the physical books better. It's the one thing that I prefer the older way of doing it. Also, you can't get a digital copy signed by the author. On the bright side, though, if you're ever planning on being a successful author, you can change your name to Kindle Nook and just claim all of them! (Actually, come to think of it, it's one of two things I do the old fashioned way. The other is baking bread.)

Physical copies by far.

Edited by Entraps: 3/12/2013 6:52:54 PMPhysical. I like to own every book I read. I even dislike borrowing books from the library. Digital reading is something I don't think I could ever get into. Actually, I generally don't like anything digital, I want physical copies of everything. Games, movies, books. The only thing I prefer to have digitally is music.

Physical

I prefer physical, dont know, but i like the feel, and the fact that i can visually see my collection grow.
-
it just isn't the same.
Sums up my opinion of digital books. I find a regular book much easier to read.
-
Physical copies all the way.. The only thing better about digital copies is it's more convenient to carry multiple books around with a Kindle than a physical copy.
-
Depends. I only like hard covers, as paper backs can get awkward to read.
-
I prefer a physical copy.
-
Definitely physical copies, definitely. I don't understand why anyone would rather go digital. Unless it was for ease of carrying, for vacations or something of the like.
-
I much prefer physical copies.

but what happens when the power goes out? I don't read often, however I'd prefer a physical copy of the book.
