So the second amendment...

Since when does it say the right to bare guns? If I remember correctly it says arms. Which if we interpreted loosely enough could mean nuclear arms. So why is everyone assuming it means guns?

  • Well considering only the military owns nukes the only way a person could get is through them. Al they have to do is not sell them.

  •
if we interpreted loosely enough
Thankfully we have thousands of people that have and currently study this, and nine national experts on the document that have studied and practiced their entire adult lives to be given the honor of interpreting it (I'm talking of course about the Supreme Court). We can see that intent of the Founding Fathers. Clearly they desired it for self defense:
To suppose arms in the hands of citizens, to be used at individual discretion, except in private self-defense, or by partial orders of towns, countries or districts of a state, is to demolish every constitution, and lay the laws prostrate, so that liberty can be enjoyed by no man; it is a dissolution of the government. The fundamental law of the militia is, that it be created, directed and commanded by the laws, and ever for the support of the laws. -John Adams
As you can see, the purpose if for self defense, whether personal or from the government. If at some point it was deemed reasonable that nuclear bombs should be used in self defense by an individual, I have zero doubts that the supreme court would find it legal.

    • oh, and for you consideration, muskets were not state of the art in the day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_rifle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puckle_gun http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girandoni_Air_Rifle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grapeshot keep in mind that the US lacked the current constitution until 1791 and most of the US' navy and cannons were privately owned and merely lent to the provisional revolutionary government.

an "arm" is a word for weapon. However weapons of mass destruction and other "destructive devices" are illegal.

No, arms are the things attached to our upper torso. That amendment means, no one can chop our arms off. No one. We have the right to bare arms, no one can force us to conceal them under cloth either. Arms.
