I was arguing with some idiot on the mains and like most [ultra] conservatives he didn't know what he was talking about, but he called me a hate monger for going back on what the US fought against in WWII... which he claimed was socialism. From that point of confusion on, which dumbfounded me with a whole new level of stupidity, did I realize he was actually what we fought against in WWII, fascists and social class.
It's the same concept behind separate but equal. Even if you have civil unions (that actually have the same benefits of marriage) there's still the social inequality it enforces. And correct me if I'm wrong, but social class is exactly that: fascism.
So yeah, what the title asks. Are they technically fascists?
-
It's certainly fascist if you're using Orwell's proposed definition in 'Politics and the English Language' ('politics with which I disagree but, like, REALLY HARD').
-
Fascists? No. Bigots and assholes? Yes.
-
WWII was fought against the wrong people.
-
That would be like saying people who support free health care are socialists. Being opposed to same-sex marriage is one stance which has a fascistic justification.
-
As much as I support gay marriage, I think you're reaching on this one.
did I realize he was actually what we fought against in WWII, fascists and social class.
Wrong. The United States was fighting against Japan as revenge for the attack on Pearl Harbor (cause of USA getting into the war), and to protect it's interests in Europe.
but social class is exactly that: fascism
All of my what. Fascism has no issues with social class. If it did, nobody would mind it.
So yeah, what the title asks. Are they technically fascists?
Nope.

possibly, if you think about it in one way... but why shouldn't everyone get a chance to grow old and miserable together?
-
i guess it depends. in a purely literal and ideological sense then sure they're Fascists; but to label them as such is to put them up there with 1940s Germany which is probably a bit excessive.
-
Nope.

Good lord, just when I thought I heard it all
-
Fascism has little if anything to do with class; it's all about nationalism.
-
I don't quite see what socialism has to do with gay marriage.
-
Civil unions do not have all the advantages of a marriage, because of DOMA the federal government only recognizes a straight couple as recognizable marriage, which means a gay couple would not get federal benefits. So even if a state gives all the benefits it gives to a civil union or gay marriage, they are still missing that.
like most [ultra] conservatives he didn't know what he was talking about
HAHAHAHAHA
-
You can't be classified as anything based on a single belief. Opposing gay marriage is fascist in nature, however.

Bump.
