"Call of Duty 'has almost ruined a generation of shooter players,...'"

Source (PC Gamer) I kinda agree with this. I posted this on Facebook in a reply to someone (this is just a copy and paste):
@Benjamin: the thing is that devs are trying to make unique games, which are very good games, but most of the consumer base wants Call of Duty and not those fun, unique games. Therefore those good, unique games don't sell as well, even though it was a great game. So the devs then have to resort to make a CoD clone in order to get sales, because that's what the consumer base wants. Personally, I don't. I love those unique, fun games.
Do you agree or disagree?

 • I have to disagree with you mr cheesy. I have not personally owned a call of duty, i have tried a friends and wondered still why so many kids buy this game. its terrible. however when you look around and see the hype for these cookie cutter shooters its no wonder the kids still buy them. advertising DOES work. and those cuts prove it. they may not be willingly supporting the franchise but they are told its the best, that they will love it and so they go out and buy it. its more a form of brainwashing then anything. and half the kids who are typically under the age recommendation dont know any better. to you topwargamer, i do agree with the fact many good games get pushed to the side in terms of hype and advertising once the next cookie cutter shooter comes out. in fact most get the boot. but they do know it will sell because it has in the past. but the problem is not so much in the consumer base its the companies that advertise these games. the consumer base which is typically very young, at least the group they shoot for, doesnt know any better unless a friend, family member or other gamer tells them different. so all of us, instead of ranting, save a little gamers life and introduce them to one of those unique games that isnt just another call of duty, teach them to ignore the advertising and break the mold. maybe only then will the tables slowly turn on the developers, just maybe.
