Since Google makes tons of money off of ads, it "makes sense" that they wouldn't want to encourage users of their products/services to have tools to block those income-producing ads.
So far, this is limited to Android devices, but I could see Google attempting to render Chrome less capable of blocking ads. IMO, it's probably just a matter of time.
So much for "don't be evil", eh?

I have my doubts [them gimping ABP in Chrome]. Of course, they may remove ABP from the Chrome Store, they won't block it outright (that's a PR nightmare waiting to happen). Sort of makes sense they would take it down on the the Google Play store. After all, why should they distribute a product that blocks their income? Its not as if you can't still install Ad Block anyway. Its not iOS where Google's word is law on Android.
