Do you ever wonder if you're actually smart or that maybe you have this idea that you are smart simply because of the easy access of information to the internet? I often wonder to myself, am I actually intelligent or do I have a false sense of intelligence because of the internet? I don't know.

Everyone says I'm smart, and I'm the smartest of my friends, but I don't know. I feel really dumb sometimes and I don't think it's humility.

Edited by Purple: 3/17/2013 8:15:08 AMWell I maintained above a 3.5 GPA throughout high school. I'm actually surprised myself considering how much I bull shitted my sophomore year.

I believe "intelligence" is more than just knowing a lot about something. True intellect is a way of thinking. A genuis may not know anything about a subject that you know like the back of your hand. But the way they think about it, learn it, and apply it will completely dumbfound you. We may know our crafts inside out, but all that means is we studied and applied through experience. Knowledge /= Intelligence IMO.

Intelligence is relative to the situation at hand. I'm in my Junior year of Nuclear Engineering. I know more about the thermodynamic properties of your car's engine than your mechanic will ever know. You set us both up to fix an engine though, and I'd basically be worthless. Most people are "smart" about something. Whether that something is "worth" being smart about is a different question.

No. Its enough to just be not retarded, which is seemingly hard for a lot of people to achieve.

My mommy says I'm smart.

Intelligence, I think is relative When it comes to medicine I can school 95% of the population with ease. When it comes to Emergency Medicine, 99% without thinking twice. If we venture into a topic I'm not familiar, like African nations history...I'm pretty useless.

I find your argument to be rather shallow and pedantic.
-
Well I can tell OP isn't.
-
Not really. Whether I am or not, I know what I need to for the moment, and i'll learn what I need to when I need to. As long as that's the case, don't see why I should worry about it.
-
I know I'm not.

Edited by Verbatim: 3/17/2013 6:23:56 AMIntelligence doesn't mean jack shit until you start stacking yourself up amongst others. Like, I like to think I'm usually the most intelligent, or at least the most wise, person in the room at any given moment. By myself, I know essentially nothing.
