T4R.
Don't particularly care about the genre, either.

Well... Time to bump this

Get the new Monster Hunter, but try not to get addicted. Its like the Ring of Power. If you have a weak will, then it will consume you.
-
I got one recently, and I purchased Ocarina of Time and Mario 3d land and both were excellent. I've also been hearing a lot of good things about the most recent Fire Emblem game.

You should check out this thread on NeoGAF. Lots of great discussion about good games and the 3DS in general.

Pokemon Black or White (2)* Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D Fire Emblem: Awakening (I've never played it but I hear it is good) Kid Icarus: Uprising (Same reason as above) *Not 3D but still good games.

Edited by TheBiggerBang97: 3/18/2013 9:49:47 PMDefinitely The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and Kid Icarus: Uprising. I was also entertained by Star Fox 64 3D and Super Mario 3D Land, though not for nearly as long as those other two. I know it's not a 3DS game, but since you can play DS games on it anyway, I highly recommend Pokemon Conquest; I'm mildly addicted.

i am really wanting a 3DS mainly for fire emblem because i am a massive sucker for TRPG's
-
Fire Emblem Awakening Kingdom Hearts 3DS OoT 3DS Avoid Paper Mario Sticker Star like the plague.

Dusk covered both of my suggestions. Oh, there is the new New Super Mario Bros.
-
Resident Evil:Revelations Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Fire Emblem Awakening Pokemon X & Y Pokemon mystery dungeon LOZ: Ocarina of Time Super Mario 3D Land

There are lots of good suggestions in this thread, but don't neglect the eShop. There are some really good downloadable games, like Pushmo, Crashmo, Mutant Mudds, Link's Awakening DX, and loads more. And they're all pretty cheap.

Edited by A 3 Legged Goat: 3/18/2013 9:44:12 AMThe 3DS launched to rocky sales and general public apathy mainly because nobody wanted to pay $250 USD for a system with lousy games. But since the price slash, Nintendo has been slowly but surely building up the content roster for the 3DS. Along with the recent release of the upgraded 3DS XL, there are a lot of supposedly good games that are out right now or will be coming out: Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Starfox 64 3D Kid Icarus Uprising Kingdom Hearts 3D Pokemon X/Y Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity (if the MD games are your speed) Animal Crossing New Leaf (if you enjoyed the first) Mario Kart 7 (I thought the first was fun) Resident Evil Revelations Rayman 3D is one I'd try, but it wasn't as acclaimed as Rayman Origins New Super Mario Bros 2 (not a fan personally) The next Super Smash Bros is also slated to be both on the Wii U and the 3DS, and there've been rumors of another Metroid game too. To quote an article, "the best video game systems are, quite simply, the systems that have the best games. In 2013, that's the 3DS". It's safe to say that 2013 is the year of the 3DS. It's a really good investment right now, but if you're upgrading from a DS Lite or a DSi (or maybe buying a DS for the first time), most people would suggest that you get the 3DS XL. The design more resembles the DS Lite with 2-tiers instead of 3 and a more flush exterior. The buttons are similar and more defined than the original 3DS, the battery lasts longer, the screens are much bigger and brighter, and the positioning of certain things (Stylus, headphone jack, etc.) make more sense. The only advantage the 3DS has over it is portability (and the 3DS has an LED light when the 3D is engaged, unlike the newer model). I'm looking into one for this summer, and so far I've nearly settled on this one, as I've always been a sucker for the Pikachu consoles. But I may replace the white casing with black, because somebody doesn't know how to match colors correctly.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is really good!
-
Kid Icarus: Uprising is quite enjoyable, though the controls for land battles may or may not take some getting used to.
-
There are so many good games, do you even have to ask for a suggestion? Just wait till Tuesday(if in America) for Monster Hunter and you'll be set for the next 2-3 months.
-
Kid Icarus Uprising Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Code of Princess Fire Emblem Awakening Resident Evil Revelations
-
Monster hunter 3G and Monster Hunter 4 when it comes out
-
I got one a long time ago, for whatever reason, and I don't suggest doing the same. The only game that I've found satisfying iss Zelda OOT, and I guess that doesn't even count. I have yet to buy the new Fire Emblem, though.
-
Edited by Zoid: 3/18/2013 3:12:22 AMFire Emblem: Awakening You need it, don't question me. You just need it. You need it now. Get it because you need it. It doesn't need you, you need it. Now. I'm serious. You seriously need it now. (Besides that, there's Etrian Odyssey IV, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Kid Icarus: Uprising and Code of Princess)

I just tried to post a thread on portable gaming, but when I hit submit it did not post. :( I suggest Super Mario Bros 2.

Edited by Heisenburg: 3/18/2013 3:03:01 AMJust put forty-something hours into Zero Escape: Virtues Last Reward, amazing game, however absolutely do not play it without playing the first game of the series.

Fire Emblem.
-
Kid Icarus: Uprising. Kingdom Hearts 3D (best game on system tbh) Crashmo My little brother lost my 3DS a while back so I haven't bought any games since last year, but it's a really solid system.
