Should humanity ban guns and weapons? Should the United States go first?
Do you think that if we banned guns an alien civilisation would make peaceful contact with us when they had observed that we were no longer violent savages?
-
Yes. No, everyone should go first. Maybe.
-
I'd imagine that everyone would be pretending that they were dismantling their weapons while secretly stockpiling enough warheads to nuke every planet in the solar system twice.
-
-
Please do. With my pointy rock tied to a stick, I shall rule the earth.
-

Banning anything necessitates the need for superior force to enforce said ban. If your question is "would aliens talk to us if everyone voluntarily decided not to ever use violence as a coercive strategy?" you're asking the wrong species. Why do you put it on an extraterrestrial civilization to bring you enlightenment?
-
If there was this theoretical button that would destroy all guns past, present and future, I would press it. However, this button doesn't exist (obviously) so banning them outright will not do any good. If you do that, criminals will still find a way to obtain them, and then they would become virtually invincible given that they have tons of ammo.

HOW DID THAT BIRD BREAK THE GUN 2SPOOKY4ME
-
No. Weapons are fun
-
Are you implying guns make us violent savages or we wouldn't be if they didn't exist? That would be a very foolish and false claim.
-
Completely? No. Law enforcement still needs them. Though it's kind of funny in a sad way that in some countries simply existing there means you need a gun to be or feel safe. But, that's probably the result of underlying socio-economic factors that nobody does anything about.

Edited by BSS Lazer: 3/24/2013 8:33:40 PMNo, banning weapons is idiotic and pretty much impossible.
-
No. Humanity will never be entirely peaceful, and should one means of warfare be eliminated, humanity will find a substitute. No. The crime rate will skyrocket. Criminals will have a field day because no one can defend themselves. I highly doubt it.
-
Absolutely not. That would cause more violence.
-
It'd be nice, but it will never happen.
-
No. And I'm probably the biggest advocate of gun control here.
-
Even if it were possible, no. They're not just killing machines; people use them for sport and hobby.
-
Russia doesn't necessarily want to invade a country where everyone has guns.

Edited by Capitons Wang: 3/21/2013 7:03:11 PMWhy, we will just use swords and maces. Keep it effective and efficient. Also the irony of the OPs name and his stupidity.

Who said I have not already made contact with your kin?
-
Wait...there's aliens?
-
OR they would see how helpless we became and invade us...
-
good luck with that.
