Is Destiny's story too close to the new Halo Trilogy?

-Humanity was once a great civilization. -Struck down by enemies and reduce to fractions of it's former selves. -Saved only by the will of a single protector. -Now Humanity is on the rise, rediscovering itself and the universe. -Still beset by old enemies.

  • That exact scenario could be applied to the Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, and I'm sure a dozen other major fictional works. It's too broad.

Ah there have been allot of things from books movies tv shows ect..one could make the point that in a way Starship Troopers the book by Robert A. Heinlein is quite like Halo. We could use Frank Herbert Dune as well. As allot of media could be Referenced in many ways with like minded themes . Destiny Differs as the story is not one of a great legacy of hero's such as the Spartans, ODST's, Marines all apart of the UNSC against the Covenant. Halo showed a narrow slice of that universe. While the Master Chief is a hero in every part of the word. The story focused mostly on his actions that shifted the War into the Humans favor from his perspective. ODST and Reach were exceptions. Destiny will have many heroes that you will play as becoming a legend in your own right and actions the Community does will help events in a ever changing world that you go out and try to reclaim the past of once was. Building the hero from the ground up as you define what you are as a Guardian. It might seem akin yet Destiny thus is not. Its a Fantasy/Sci-Fi set in a whole different universe where one city is humanity's last refuge instead of the UNSC who had colonies that were burned until only earth was left. Fiction differs as well as the view outline and even what the game play to the content of it will be. Fps is Halo Like. With the innovative extras Yet no open world. While Destiny takes a fresh approach. Being a Kind of Fps mixed with MMO and Rpg like. Open world with Char building social diverse structure and Adventure Galore as you quest with friends into dungeons or other worlds to find treasure. Kinda like a table top Rpg come to life. So no they are not alike as Halo is more Sci-Fi then fantasy. Destiny has a mixture of the two but is far greater than Halo is due to the concept fiction and idea of open scope world play. This sets it apart. While there are things like Forge in Halo so much can be made to put into Destiny that it would leave Halo behind. Its like comparing a Ford Mustang(Halo) to a Lamborghini,or Mercedes Benz(Destiny).

  • -There is no single protagonist -Everything takes place in the solar system -But the planets have been changed in epic, fantastic ways -The forgotten civilization that we're reclaiming was and will have been ours in the future, not the far and distant past -Space Gold -Space Magic No, at least not for marketing purposes. Besides, the broader audience never made it that deep into the story, because 343 decided to put the terminals on Waypoint. So the in-game narrative was and still is a complete cluster frak for anyone not invested in the broader franchise, and the brief mention of ancient humans in spartan ops unfortunately isn't enough to make the main story of the Reclaimer Trilogy anything more than Halo kills aleins all over again.

  • Its similar in a way, but comparing Destiny to Halo is just going to set your mind against Destiny. There are many games and movies with the same five bulletins you posted. All you need to do is not look at the similarities, but the differences. Look at it as its own game, not a split off of Halo.

  • That doesn't sound at all like Halo. Humans in Halo were never "great" and we weren't really reduced to a fraction of ourselves.

  • You can make anything sound similar if you make the descriptions that vague.

  • destiny has space, earth, a moon, stars, an unknown history and various other-worldly beings, space travel and ancient relics of unknown origin. destiny = 2001: a space odyssey with more sound, dialogue and action... maybe. see? you can find common themes anywhere you choose to.

-Humanity was once a great civilization. [In Halo, they still were - they were never pushed to a single city, we were fighting back the whole time.] -Struck down by enemies and reduce to fractions of it's former selves. [Again, this is about scale. Halo was about an ongoing fight, destiny is about one we lost long ago] -Saved only by the will of a single protector. [The world in Halo was not save by a single protector, it was many. It was the UNSC. It was all of the Spartan I's, II's, and III's. In Destiny, it isn't even us who saves us. It's something else entirely. Halo was about the human struggle against an oncoming threat. Destiny is about a threat that came and wiped us out - but somehow we survived] -Now Humanity is on the rise, rediscovering itself and the universe. [Humanity is struggling to not be wiped out of existance in destiny, they're not on the rise.] -Still beset by old enemies. [From what I can tell, in destiny, these enemies are new enemies than the ones that wiped us out before]

    • there are similar, yes, but I think Destiny will have enough differences not to be a new Halo Trilogy.

    • It's similar, yes. I think they could have been a little more creative with the story line. Perhaps it will portray itself differently in actual gameplay.

    • It sounds like a Halo clone to be honest. Much like how Halo was a Marathon clone.
