In late 2012, a "cadre of shoemakers & artists in Berlin, Germany, who make ridiculously comfortable, Bauhaus-inspired shoes" decided to test a hypothesis. They'd noticed that some of their customers in the United States were experiencing delays and other problems receiving their shipments. They began to wonder why. Could it be the packing tape they used? The tape prominently featured the name of their brand: ATHEIST.
...
To test their hypothesis about the packing tape, the shoemakers decided to send two packages to each of 89 people in the United States. For each recipient, one package featured the Atheist-branded packing tape and one used generic packing tape. All packages were shipped the same day. Yet the Atheist-branded packages took an average of three days longer to reach their destinations. And while only one package from the generic-tape set went missing, nine of the Atheist-branded packages went missing. These (statistically significant) results were recently released on their website.

I think I might pick up a pair of those "Darwin Loves" shoes.
-
Are the shoemakers themselves atheists, or is that just the name of the brand?
-
Slightly off-topic but is there a way to block private group threads from appearing in my Flood page? I'm not a part of this group anymore and just want to see Flood stuff.
-
They should test tape with the names of other belief systems on them before jumping to conclusions.
-
So? Tell the idiot to stop sending Atheist packaging tape is he want's his business to survive. It's that simple.

Edited by BACE: 4/9/2013 10:11:48 PMi should start sending all of my crap with "Jesus love you" and "#Christianityisawesome" so i can get free first-class mail
-
Let's try to rule out any possible external factors; were the two types of tape packaged identically and was there a weight-difference at all? Sometimes heavier packages may take longer or be further delayed because of the space they may take up. WHile this is all unlikely, it isn't entirely unplausible.

"Atheist Shoemaker" A shoemaker with no sole?
-
Mail tampering is a pretty serious criminal offense.
-
Atheists losing faith. Did anyone else chuckle? No? Well, I'm here all week!
-
I struggle to imagine the level of small-mindedness one must suffer in order to think that screwing with mail is a worthwhile outlet for your religious beliefs (or, more accurately, your intolerance of others').
-
>from Germany >Atheist packaging obviously they are terrorists.
-
It's illegal to do this and you can't hold America as a whole responsible for this.
-
That was wrong. If they send shoes out to people they should get to them.
-
They should put GPS trackers in the packages and see where they go.
-
its like sending bibles to Saudi Arabia. Why this is a surprise is actually really stupid on the business owners part. You sedn packages titled ATHEIST to a nation with a history leaning towards conservatism, and you are surprised that the package takes time? I thought germans where smarter then this.
-
That has got to be the most niche profession I've ever heard of.
-
Relevant?
-
They have special athiest packing tape?
-
Wait... Does this mean... ...Kris Kringle isn't Santa?!
-
I think the whole ordeal is very silly.
-
I'm actually fairly surprised, I would have expected people to be more mature than this.
-
Where can I find the data?
-
178 packages, with one versus nine missing is a significant statistic? We sure about that now?
-
If you are so serious about being atheist that you have special atheist tape you probably deserved it. I wouldn't ship stuff with tape that says "JESUS LOVES YOU JESUS LOVES YOU JESUS LOVES YOU"
-
LOL amazing
