Explaining Prom to non-Americans
First off, what is Prom, how does it work? Is it just a school dance, or something more?
Second, what does it represent? What is the social structure of Prom? Why is it such a big deal?
Third, is it really only in America? We don't have Prom where I live, but in England? Scandinavia?

I didn't know what prom was till last year, mostly because I'm home-schooled, and I'm not really into 80's movies.
