I would hardly call us the rulers of the world, because our political influence doesn't extend itself to directly controlling the political systems of other countries. A more appropriate term is global hegemony, because our military is used to undermine states that attempt to defy us. Moreover, our soft power also influences other nations' actions in both the international scene and their own domestic sphere where they have undisputed sovereignty.
