It looks like a number of weapons are to gain a damage boost in the next Halo 4 update. The DMR shall no longer dominate the battlefield it seems.
Something did catch my eye in the article however: including the Warthog and Mantis chain-guns. How well do you think this will go down if these two are having their chain-guns given more punch?
-
To fix something OP they make everything else OP. Great job 343. /sarcasm
-
Not optimistic. The 3 precision weapon changes are nice, but the fact that they're buffing the ARs (which are already bordering on OP) and the vehicles instead of removing the problem - plasma pistols in loadouts - sours the rest of it. Oh well.
-
warhog yes Mantis no.
-
My guess would be to take lower the DMR's aim assist and increase the bloom and leave everything else like the way it is except the Carabine, 7 bullets to the head to kill. If the DMR gets this nerf, players will have to lower their RoF to get a kill from afar and get destroyed from close range or mid. I also feel like every map shipped with the game is completely DMR friendly with it's open wide spaces where it's almost never safe to walk around
-
The Storm Rifle, Suppressor, and Assault Rifle already kill pretty fast compared to other games How about making the BR four shot and that's it, the Light Rifle has considerable range already, and the Carbine, well you can make that seven shots I guess
“Looking at the DMR,” 343 explained, “we currently feel that the kill time should remain unchanged, as the weapon has become a clear favorite amongst the community due to its reliability and consistency.
All hope remains lost.

That sounds awesome.

Why not just get rid of the god awful amount of autoaim and bullet magnetism the DMR has and make it so players actually have to aim with that monster?
-
About damn time... The Warthog was useless.

Edited by TheLashghost: 4/20/2013 7:37:38 PMI may be wrong, but wouldn't the simple and probably better solution be to tone down the power of OP weapons instead of bringing everything else up a level?
-
I just want my weapons to spawn on the map at regular intervals again.

I appreciate that they are trying to balance the game but I think they are doing it wrong. I did enjoy the 4sk BR but the reason it was balanced was because there was very little aim assist with it. So yes you could have fast kill times but that was only the case with skilled players, whereas with those not so it was not that fast. Halo 4 has the most aim assist overall of any halo game (I believe). Because of this increase of aim assist and also in bullet magnetism I feel that the BR is going to become OP. I know the "pro's" say that they use it all the time and things are great with it but they are only using BR's. With an increase to the BR's power it appears that it is going to dwarf the other weapons. I myself use the BR all the time and I am able to compete and win against DMR users (the DMR remains broken regardless). Now if I am able to kill on burst faster with the BR then I believe the gun will be OP or at least feel so in my hands. The other issue it runs into is that the other guns will be diminished as well. With the one less shot to kill on the carbine it is a good buff but again I feel the BR will be able to beat it. Also the light rifle will only be receiving a range increase so it will become useless against the BR with the one being a 5sk and the other being a 4sk while both have the same RoF. With the automatics I think that they are good the way they are now. They fit the role of a cqb weapon very nicely and I don't think they need a damage buff. But oh well, it is slight overall. In terms of the vehicles I really don't think 343 understand whats broke here. So, overall I don't see this TU as a good thing. If anything I see it as breaking Halo 4 further. The problem is that 343 industries is ignoring the elephant in the room. Halo fans want halo, not just a halo look alike but a game that plays like halo. That means arena style gameplay. Start on even ground and work for advantages, not score a bunch of assists and get a rocket while I got a killing frenzy and got a needler for it. I honesty don't care if they pushed there new gametype but do it in its own playlists, don't remove the core of Halo for your new stuff. I would be happy at this point just to have one playlist with arena style gameplay.

Now they just need to tweak ordnance and fix vehicles.
-
4sk BR? Well that's not going to be the new dominate weapon..

People aren't using it because of that 343. They are using it because it 's better than the BR, LolCarbine and Lightrifle.

I'm not especially thrilled about kill times being faster, and I would've gone in a different direction with the AR, but overall I like it. Would've been a good idea if they lowered the DMR's aim assist.
-
A 4 shot BR? Hopefully that doesn't become the dominating weapon. As for the Carbine getting one shot less to kill, I am more than fine with. I always felt it was lacking something but still preferred it over the LR and BR. It may become my main weapon after this update.
-
Wow. It is about frickin time! They sure were taking their sweet time.
-
Only 6 months after game release. yey
-
They need to fix the sounds. Weapons sound really lame, like some 13 year old kid's idea of badass futureguns with over-the-top reloads and weapons swaps. It's annoying
-
Do they know when this update is coming out? One of the main reasons I stopped playing was because of the OP DMR and all the other weapons are extremely weak compared to it. I hope they go through with this update. It would help a bit. But they won't recover from the backlash at the GDC panel.
-
-blam!- the Mantis.
-
Well, at least multiplayer 343 has some shred of sense within them when it comes to weapon sandbox, unlike Bungie who would just nerf everything to sh1t to accommodate for new weapons.
-
4 shot BR sounds good. Not so sure about the Mantis, but it could work.
