What are your thoughts on the stealth genre? What are your favourites, if any?
I thought of posting this topic because earlier today I finally finished a playthrough of Deus Ex: Human Revolution without setting off any alarms or killing anyone. It was an enjoyable challenge but there were a lot of save file restarts. I know the game isn't exactly within the stealth genre but still.

This video is definitely worth a watch if you're into stealth games. Stealth is about triumphing despite being disempowered. It's about beating the odds and outwitting your enemy. This is fundamentally different than the dominance fantasy involved in mowing down enemies.

I still remember being blown away by the original Splinter Cell. While CT is the best in the series, the first is my favourite.

I think anyone would say MGS...because that's the shit. I myself love to use strict stealth in dungeons on Skyrim on the hardest difficulty. Killing is optional, but getting to the end undetected is the goal. If you do get detected...hold on to yer butt.

Splinter Cell, SC Pandora Tomorrow, SC Chaos Theory

yeah I couldn't do that in Deus Ex. The first guy I came across started shooting at me I wiped out every enemy in that game after that lol. I don't have the time to waste to hide and sneak by so I blasted my way through.

Metal Gear is my all time favorite franchise.

The Metal Gear series is my all-time favorite series ever. Metal Gear Solid 3 is my personal favorite game of the series, with it's camouflage and survival system. And it had awesome boss battles. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is another favorite of mine, and probably the best game of the entire Splinter Cell franchise.

Definitely an underappreciated genre. I really wish Splinter Cell would go back to its roots rather than continue down this action path it seems to be taking.

I haven't played many stealth games. Metal Gear is one of my favourite franchises, but those are the only stealth games I've really thoroughly played. I'm kind of playing through Human Revolution, but I started back in December and haven't played it much since then. I do like the game, though.
