Guess who gets killed off in Destiny?

The most obvious way our own Guardian could have been the one to save Earth, and for the story to hold up without breaking continuity in a sequel, is if they / we died in the process. Then they can be henceforth referred to, in the next installment, as some unknown Guardian of legend without naming names. Meaning our characters, if not their loot, won't be carried over into the next game.
In Destiny, each of us gets to experience what it was like to be that Guardian. And die trying.

Personally, I have a different opinion how Bungie might go about this problem. In the coming games the will refer to the "victors" as The Guardians. They can do this if NPC Guardians come and join you in your last fight to delay the enemy and give Humanity another chance. If youre in a group then the NPCs might disappear since there are now more than one Guardian. Its know that SWTOR would do something like this and it doesnt seem improbable that Bungie might. Afterall, judging by all the redacted statements such as "You wont believe your eyes when you meet [redacted]" or something along those lines, then that signals NPC characters who play a pivotal role in the game. Who knows, maybe some of them will directly help you in the fight for Humanity.
