Fergie Calls Time on Manchester United Career

Ferguson retires as United manager I half expected the apocalypse to happen before anyone would see this day... It's almost incomprehensible to anyone below 40, United fan or not, to imagine football without the man. The biggest surprise for me was how abrupt it was - especially for this relatively meagre season (by United's standards) - even though I'm a Chelski fan, I wouldn't begrudge Fergie a final retirement treble. Anyway, there go United's next 20 titles.

 • Everyone knew this day would happen eventually but it is still a huge shock to see him leave. This was always going to worry the board at United and the fans but the bigger worry I think is the person who will be given the job. Moyes is looking very likely for the job and I am all in favor of him being the next manager. He has been fantastic at Preston and Everton on a lemonade budget, so to see him become the manager of one of the best teams in the world with money to spend is a frightening thought for opponents! He has also shown huge loyalty to the club and the Everton academy which is something that will be treasured at United. Plus he will still be accompanied by SAF when he becomes director next season so assistance/advice is never far away should he ever need it. Mourinho would have been good as well for entertainment and for European success, but I don't see the loyalty and the stability in him that Moyes would bring to the table. Plus he has a huge payout clause in his Madrid contract and Moyes is going for free at the end of the season and managers like him are a rare thing to come across. He has done so much for the club and for the sport. Thank you SAF!
