Would Electric Cars Sell...

Yes

No

If they were more attractive? I think a big factor in electric cars not selling is that they look super ugly. Just look at the Nissan Leaf! Electric cars aren't too bad and they some pretty good benefits. I honestly wouldn't mind having an electric car if it actually decent. And I'm sure people wouldn't mind having a Tesla Roadster but then again not everyone has $80k to drop on a car. The expensiveness of the car pretty much cancels out the benefit of not paying for gas. I mean is it so hard to make an attractive looking car, that's economical, and cheap?! What do you think flood? Would you buy an electric car if it was more attractive? Discuss.

  • The Tesla Model S is a pretty sexy machine. But I think those manufacturers know what they're doing. Electric vehicles are largely a niche market, and people who actually want them also want people to know they have them. Et viola, Nissan Leaf. I guess that's slowly changing, with the Fusion Energi for example. But I think the main thing holding back electric cars is price. The Model S starts at $60k, and it only has the dinky 60kWh battery (230 miles). And recharge stations are few and far between, though you can plug it in overnight at home.

  • Well obviously a more attractive product will sell more, but that's not the #1 issue for electric cars. They've still got plenty of improvements to make.

  • I like the look of the Tesla. If I had the cash, I would get one. Sadly, I don't have $120,000 just laying around. (I would get every option!)

  • I actually like the leaf. I think it looks good and is a decent car. The thing that turns me off to electric cars is price and range. They're more expensive then cars of similar size. Plus the range on cars such as the leaf isn't very good, and recharge times too. I know cars like the model s have better ranges, but they're still expensive. I have nothing against the electric car, I just think the tech needs to be improved before I think about getting one.

    • They would if they had essentially 3 things; -Longer range between charges -Equivalent price to gas powered cars -Batteries that were cheaper to replace and to dispose of. But when it comes to sports cars, half the allure is the engine sound. that would be a difficult thing to overcome.

      • They're worse for the environment than fossil fuel cars because of the amount of electricity they use from power stations is more than cars that use petrol use petrol (or "gasoline" if you prefer or some run off diesel instead...) I propose that we invent a car that runs off water. Think about it, you put water in, the car battery will use electricity to electrolyse the water into hydrogen and oxygen, burn the hydrogen to produce power to fuel the car with the only by products being oxygen and water and the battery would recharge by the motion of the car and the only fuel is water!
