Just a few would have sufficed, 3 quick previews of different games to showcase the capability and versatility of the console with different genres would've done me fine. I get that they wanted to show off the console, but they didn't show off the thing which people are probably going to spend most of their time doing - playing games.

Actually, people already spend more time in other entertainment on the Xbox 360 than they do playing games. Just because us hard core gamers spend more time playing games doesn't mean that this is the overall trend. I do understand what you're saying, but to me, it makes perfect sense to me that Microsoft would highlight the box's entertainment capabilities first at the reveal event (while still highlighting several of the biggest games like FIFA and CoD), and then show off the rest of a massive games lineup at E3.
