• Bungie did not sell Halo. Bungie was bought by Microsoft and they developed Halo during that time. This means that when Bungie gained its independence Microsoft still owned Halo.

    • I like how they wanted to make a new game, there halo ideas were getting dry. But Halo 4 was the worst halo in my opinion, it's down there with Wars, the 5 Bungie halos were all amazing.

    • Yes. In a restrictive series with set 'laws' or whatever you say they're called, one team can only have so many ideas before it goes stale, I could see that happening with reach. With 343, it's a new team, new ideas, new story. TL;DR, it was good

    • Where's the "OP is an idiot" option? I'm sure it's been mentioned already. But still. Come on. Bungie never owned Halo. Microsoft owned Halo. Bungie decided to split from Microsoft, whereupon Microsoft created a subsidiary of their Games division which they call 343 Industries, to take over now when they left. No selling whatsoever, Bungie wanted to have control of what they create (hence their publishing deal with Activision saying they maintain full creative control and rights to all the IPs etc.), with Microsoft they did not have that.

    • In 1992 the popular extreme sports company called Bunjee Designs invented the Halo which they discovered in the Mojave desert. They then developed it into the successful video cartridge game called Master Chief: Halo Evolved which, as you know, was the story of a man who discovers magical armor haunted by the ghost of a naked talkative teenage girl that allowed him to travel through time. Fast forward to 2013 and the Bunjee has just sold Halo Evolved to the company known as 343 Guilty Sparks, owners of Microsoft and Pepsi, for well over $10,000 dollars. Subsequently 343 have now converted Halo Evolved into the most successful iOS app of all time with a new game called Master Chief Vs The Button. *facepalm*

      • Bungie's last Halo was bad anyway so I'd rather Destiny with bad Halo games rather than simply bad Halo games.

          • When faced with the freedom to create a whole new universe that you think will be awesome versus the option to eternally churn out the same games you've already done for a decade (and only sell it on one console, mind you, limiting your sales and taking more profits), the choice becomes clear. Freedom is the way to go. Their games, their way, on their time, to as many systems as they want without a super corporation breathing down their necks saying "Hey, we need you to milk your franchise further." Would they have made Halo 4 better than 343 did? I don't doubt it. But that wasn't their choice. Microsoft owned Bungie, and by extension Halo. Bungie could either sit in purgatory forever making the same Halo games again and again, or they could evolve. Props to them for taking a chance on themselves.

          • Lol, you guys really don't get that Microsoft owns Halo due to Bungie being absorbed by them during those years. If anything the poll question should be should Microsoft have sold/given Halo back to Bungie for future development. The pitiful group sycophants at Waypoint does not represent the majority of gamers who wish to play Halo and 343 has done more harm to themselves and the franchise that the title of Halo 5 carries little draw for many as a incentive to purchase it or a next gen Microsoft product to play it on. I would buy the Xbone for TitanFall or Forza 5 right now more than I would Halo 5. So something went horribly wrong with 343's overall business plan.

            • Perfectly honest, Bungie should have stayed with Halo. As of right now Destiny doesn't seem very original. It's just Mass Effect meets Borderlands.

              • Well bungie just stopped, they left halo for an awesome new thing, Microsoft then gave halo to 343. Bungie didn't have anything to do with the deal

                  • The series was really dead, though we all knew master chief was still alive. I felt like it was a good end. And it was great for them to "sell" (which they really didn't. It was Microsoft that sold the rights to 343). This allowed then to enter into the destiny universe, to go greater and beyond what they could accomplish in Halo. I think we can all say that we are extremely excited for this new game. Halo had it's glory time. Now it's Destiny's!

All you kids who never understood what happened here is the rundown. Looking at the past Bungie was bought by microsoft in 2000. Bungie who had been independent had run into financial trouble with the recall of one million of there games they had to reprint as they were defective. That being said Microsoft owned now get this.OWNED THE RIGHTS TO HALO as it was still in development. Check out the bonus disk for Halo 2. Bungies role was being a developer. Halo went onto become a popular franchise. Now they had two choices when it became clear they were going to be able to become independent again. This was intended not a fluke. So in 2007 they sat down with Microsoft to discuss the terms of there departure. Bungie could have stayed with Microsoft and made Halo but the kicker is they would never be able to make other games. Microsoft can do Halo with any one it chooses. Now Bungie not wanting to let fans down and produce an even better game to boot. Agreed to do two more Halos. ODST and Reach. 343i was created by Microsoft at the time head of Halo Franchise and 343i Frank O'Conner. Bungie made sure they were prepared to take on the role of producing and Deving The Next three Halo games. Now if i were Bungie would i want to slave under Microsoft some more and make Halos or go on to make an original game. Destiny is just that. None of you can get Bungie has moved on from a smaller story and more focused game play around only one person or squad. They could tell the winds were blowing of change and thus left Microsoft to venture out on there own to make another fantastic game. You wieners and complainers who never did the research really have no idea what is going on. Its like well i could leave this some what great job but i own nothing i make. I have some control and basically this is short term for now. Last thing i need is an iron ball around my ankle and Bungie did just that. They went back out and invented a new game. Trend Makers not Trend Setters. Read up on your history kids. quit moaning about what should have been. Embrace now. The way Microsoft is going be glad that Bungie moved on. Also i want to add that Microsoft is scared of what Bungie will do. From what i see Bungies relationship with them is just about money for Microsoft. Also note that MS will try to Milk the Halo franchise from every angle. So Destiny is more for the fans then really MS to line there pockets.-Brother Fishbowl.

I don't like the direction 343i took with Halo, story and gameplay, but I think Bungie made the better choice with their options. I can't imagine how much money Microsoft gave them for Halo. It's allowed them to relocate and then sit back and focus on development for a good 4 years and not many companies have that luxury. Hopefully, Destiny will be awesome.

                          • I feel as if bungie should have never sold halo only because Halo does not feel the same ever since. I have played and beaten every halo and halo 4 does not seem the same. Halo use to be a game that took a lot of skill to master. Now people abuse power ups and I don't feel the same drive to play for hours. I miss the old halo now its like a futuristic modern warfare

                            • Okay chastise me after I post this, that's fine, but I need to add my input in defense of 343. They were new devs stepping into the biggest shoes they could and made a game I still enjoyed. They also took up the shackles that bungie had escaped from and are now slaving over the next halo, not an easy role. There was no way they were going to please everyone, not because of lack of talent or ambition, but only because they weren't bungie. They had no chance from the start from many halo/bungie fans and it isn't really fair to bash them over halo 4 considering the task that was put before them. Really, they deserve some credit for even making the attempt and creating a game that I at least had fun playing. Bungie wanted to move in a new direction, destiny, and 343 was ballsy enough to try and make a worthy sequel, which is completely debatable, but in my opinion, considering their circumstances, they did. Bravo 343.
